1977 f250, 490m 4x4. Every day driver?

Is it unresonable to expect that a well maintained 1977 f250 400m 4x4 could be a Every day drivable truck if taken care of properly? Mine is a frame off restoration... stock.

Not an unreasonable expectation at all. The key is that you stick to properly maintaining it, and it'll be fine. I've driven my 79 as a daily driver for a few months at a time (usually not when the winter weather hits), and it's perfectly fine. Maintenance is everything with any older vehicle. Nice truck.

Sure! I drive mine more than my bronco, and it looks like a rolling traffic violation, and was abused terribly before I bought it. I just keep the fluids topped, and listen for weird noises. Been VERY reliable for me.

Great looking truck.

Sorry I have to ask, if it is going to be a DD why is it on a trailer now? Coming home from the restoration shop? Make sure and carry a spare electronic ignition box AKA (brain box) in the glove box, and a spare inline fuel filter and go for it.

With good regular maint, wheel bearing/hub repack, drive line lube, oil changes and you should be fine.

Since it looks to be a fresh frame off restoration and a nice one at that, keep on re-torqueing things that will settle in and can loosen up as you DD it, especially U bolts.

I agree with the above. With a close eye being kept on vital parts and the necessary maintenance being done, these trucks will last and last. They have made it 40ish years so far. My truck in particular has never been out of service.

Looks very nice. If you are somewhat handy at basic mechanics then drive it till it needs redone again. I really like the dash bezels and door panels, good finishing touch.

Free wheeling package items, to bad he did not get the matching seat.

HJ over.

Still a VERY nice set up rig.

Was it a daily driver in 1977?

Why couldn't it be one in 2016?

trailer

its on the trailer to bring it home from where i bought it... i didnt do the restoration... i plan on using it as a truck... not for show.
might put some headers on it, but otherwise i intend to keep it as stock as possible. i am told that the frame and engine are f250, the cab is a f100 cab because the original cab was rolled/totaled.

Why keep the spare inline fuel filter? IS this because they clog up?
I noticed on mine there is not one on the frame rails, and the one before the carb is becoming filled with junk.

Yes, I run a inline metal body filter back by the fuel tank where the main line comes out. And another clear one in the engine compartment, and carry a spare of each.

I am sure this guys frame off restoration truck has a new tank and lines, but for us none restored guys, it's a smart move.

Notice the split on the line on each side of the filter, quality fuel line matters. Thanks you cheap **** PO (previous owner). lol

I daily my 79 and it's in a lot worse shape than yours. Most of the time wit h these trucks the question isn't whether or not the truck can be driven daily, it's whether YOU can drive it daily. Especially when it comes to the trucks with, let's say, not very many amenities. The same goes for most old vehicles really.

Do it! Awesome truck btw!

Before I changed jobs, I used all of mine as DD, I also gave (sold for cost) my 79 F250 4x4 to my BIL and drove it 1800 miles to Missouri with no issues... Preventative maintenance is key for a DD, change the oil every 3-4k and check everything out, see an issue, fix it or be ready for it. Now I work out of my company truck, and I miss driving my old piles! Looks like you have a great start!! Nice looking rig!!
