Looking at used f250 diesels for a work truck. Anything I should look for or potential problems I should be aware of?

 

If you can, start with 2013 models. 2011 has some possible valve issues and 2012 had a bad batch of turbos. Both cases are rare, so it may not matter. I would buy a 2012 if it is the right truck, good luck.

 

I owned a 2011 for 125K miles..no issues until 80k which was a/c evaporator. Which you have to pull the dash. 99000 was the turbo. 110k was power steering pump seals and hose. Plus the transmission started makeing hard banging shifts starting at 85k or so and was getting worse so I traded.
Since 2011 new 6.7 year they have upgraded glow plugs (used two piece early) torque converter,turbos,high pressure fuel pumps,brakes,exhaust brake.

 

Find one with a remaining factory warranty. You may not find any problems until you start driving it for work...then you are at least covered.

 

Remember that many trade their problems at the dealer so individual sales may be safer.
