I personally would remove the frame 'ears' of the overloads are coming into play when you don't want them to. That way you could bolt them back in when you do want them in play. It won't be easy to grind and punch out the rivets but I think it would be worth it.
I did the opposite... My truck did not have overloads. When I installed new rear leafs I added an overload leaf. I also picked up some freame 'ears' to bolt in when desired.

well gm brags about their frames not flexing and the 90s chevy and gm trucks had a pretty well known problem for breaking frames, crew cab longbeds were the worst and usually broke right behind the cab. frames flex, even OTR class 8 truck frames flex. some flex so bad the front passenger wheel can lift up or you can see the cab of the truck twist under hard acceleration.

Yep seen that myself but those trucks were hugh piles of junk top to bottom. Last years Superduty was the last Ford not to have a fully boxed frame.. the F150 has had one for quite a while now. All the newer trucks have much less frame flex to make them ride more like the minivans most people use them for, and it does improve ride and handling but it doesn't necessarilly improve towing or cargo capacity. You won't find a boxed frame on a Peterbuilt or Freightliner tractor and needless to say those things can haul more than your average pickup ever could.
