If you're talking about the plastic housing around the shift lever, that's the neutral safety switch. I thought column shift trucks had the NSS on the column? I don't think you want to remove the NSS unless you have another one somewhere else.

Correct-a-mundo. The NSS was on the column until 1978. There was no wiring on a Bump C6 until then. Unless a later model used tranny had been installed in the truck at some point in time.
Has anybody removed the plastic wiring assembly on a c6 ......I would like to eliminate this wiring.....??
You should be able to run the truck fine without it. It is only for starting purposes. When correctly installed the truck will only start in P or N. If not installed it will not prevent the trucks starting regardless of the position of the gear selector.

Then you can crank it in drive and crash through the garage into the living room. Or in reverse and back into your other car in the driveway. Have you ever cranked a car in gear? I HAVE! It'll scare the crap out of you! Hopefully not kill anybody!
