We bought another EX! (title edited)

Well we made a deal, traded in our '07 Denali and got the 2004 EB 6.0 with 190k on it. It was 11,477, we got 18k+ for the trade, net was a 7k check to us. 1 owner stock, and super clean. The deal is all pending my mechanics inspection on Monday / Tues.

Runs good, no issues that I see.

Yesterday had time to swap my cts into it from the 05 ex.

It said it it recognized a new vehicle and needed to reboot, that got rid of my tire sizes, logging info, trip settings etc. And I assume any codes.

After starting the 04 I got p0266 p0272 p0275 contribution / balance for 2,4,5.

I warmed it up pretty well and went for a good ride monitoring all the vitals. Oil / water temps at speed were 7/11 apart. (Granted it was only 45 degrees out) boost seemed okay, low during most driving but on a hill with gunning it I seen 22psi. Ficm was bouncing as low as 46.5 but mostly was right at 48v. VGT was all over the place, I got into the 30's with hard acceleration but idled usually in the 50's. After a stop and idle for about 5 minutes it was bouncing from 15 to 85 all over the place with a 10 second period.

I cleared the codes then after a 5 minute run at speed I checked and the code for just the 4th cylinder balance popped up.

Only other notes were when consistant cruising at any speed, say 30 or higher if I get on it at that point it blows some smoke (color is unkown as it was dark) for just a second or two then clears up immediately, even while continually accelerating.

Attached is a pic of the notes we took lastnight on the test run.

Worth noting, we bought it about 70 miles away. Drove it home Friday night without incident.

Currently been on the freeway for 20 miles. Going 70/75 ambient temps are 44 degrees.

Coolant is 185
Oil is 200

Been that way for last 10 miles or so.

FICM should NEVER see 46.5

It's on it's way out....

The codes your getting can be as easy as not getting enough fuel pressure to possible electrical and worse case need injector replacement. Just my .02

Mecdac,
I've owned this one for 1 year now.

LL,
The temp split is on the high side but we were cruising, I'll be monitoring it more closely.
To add, the ficm voltage was only that low after initial cold startup. After we were driving you can see it was consistantly up more.

Isn't that normal?

You should monitor, but at 15 degrees without towing in Fords eyes its toast.

You may be right on FICM but I've never seen 46. Anything at anytime. A few in the 6.0 forum would probably tell you it's on it's way out.

Overall I still think you got a good deal and you are starting SMART by monitoring all. I wish you luck with your new purchase, she's a great looking ride (not as badazz as your black one but very nice).

So, after putting 400 miles on it since getting it, no issues other than the occasional 15 degree delta split.
I'm happy with it.

My mechanic looked it over well.

The dealership just installed all new brakes and ball joints as well.

He recommended an oil cooler rebuild based on my readings and a test he does at the degas bottle. The test lets him know the gaskets are not leaking but the cooler is inefficient. Recommended cooler rebuild and egr delete.

The codes are only coming up for cylinder number 4, may be a wiring harness issue but more than likely at some point we may have an injector needing replaced.

He felt it was a little sluggish off the line and with the turbo boost being on the low side and some soot in certain areas he feels we may have some exhaust leaks keeping the turbo from maximizing boost.

The upper turbo boot is pretty sooty around the clamps, recommends replacement.

I can live with all that.

I will look in on the oil cooler /egr work and possibly do it myself.

Oh, we also bought momma an 08 Chrysler Town and Country. Loaded up with swivel seats and 2 rear dvd screens and all.

Busy weekend for this family.

Both these deals were done at dealerships. We have probably bought private party at a 7/8 to 1 ratio. I hate dealerships but in these cases, it worked well.

Congrats! Nice truck and seems to be a pretty fair price as well considering the work it will need.

It doesn't count because it's not a truck (gasser) j/k.

Replace the "cartridge" vs putting on a whole complete setup.

I just negotiated an additional 500 back due to needed repairs.

I'm real happy with the deal.
Heading to pick up my $7500 check now from the difference of the excursion to our Denali trade in.

Sorry to ask, but cartridge? I thought it was replace the cooler 1 part done... Maybe I'm missing something, make sure it's OEM.
