New to forum, whats this truck worth??
Hi all, i joined this forum to ask you all your opinions on a truck for sale on my street. The truck is a 1968 blue f100, and IS THE MOST ORIGINAL TRUCK IVE EVER SEEN. this thing looks like it belongs in 68 on a dealership lot, it is spotless, inside and out. paint is perfect, no dents other than small dings in bed, all trim and chrome is perfect. the interior is perfect except where the past owner cut holes in the doors for speakers (dash is original), the factory bench seat is unbelievably perfect. essentially it is a gem cosmetically, with no rust at all, the stock muffler looks brand new. its a 3 speed on the column with a 390. runs well, but I'm sure will need some work. no power steering. SO, any idea what this truck would be worth? thanks in advance for your time!

Welcome to FTE that truck looks good from the pics you have of it. Some things to ask about are the grille. Like said above not original to that year. My guess is it's a 68 with a 67 grille as it doesn't have any other 67 one off's. Look at the cab drip rail, cab corners, cab mounts, core support, inner fenders especially around the battery tray. Be careful anytime you see a truck for sale that the owner claims as a 390 because on sale day 360's magically become 390's they are identical the only way to tell them apart is to measure the engine stroke. Look it over well and ask the seller questions. You claim most original truck you've seen. The grille isn't original makes you wonder what else isn't original.

If the engine is all original, there would be a metal tag near the coil that says if it was a 360 or 390. Very likely the grill got dented and they replaced it, not at all unusual. I would look for signs around the door jams and fender edges under the hood for repaint. Not that there's anything wrong with a truck getting painted but very few got done with the attention to detail.
All original paint would be worth more.
In my estimation it's a $3000-$4000 truck if you don't find any other red flags.

I have a little different take. These trucks don't go for that much more if they are all original vs having a number of changes. For example, no one blinks at different grills, different engines, different seats... And upgrades like a (decent) paint job, disc brakes and power steering are looked at favorably. These trucks are most valuable as daily drivers that slowly appreciate if they are kept up.
I think this truck's lack of rust, nice interior and appearance of light use makes it more valuable than $3-$4 K. Maybe $5K-$6K if the engine is strong (good compression) and there are no other problems. This has no power steering so that might put it closer to the low end. But you can read the archives here and see plenty of $2-$4K trucks that the owners have to dump thousands and countless hours to bring them up to the state of a clean body with no rust, a nice paint job and a strong engine. This one appears to be already there. Where was it stored? How many miles?

I agree, the amount of money ive dumped into my chevys make me think it might be worth it to get this one in driver condition.
it has 40,000 original miles(m i believe this is accurate) , stored in a garage in san francisco.
how much would it cost to convert this one to power steering?

Not cheap, in terms of time and materials, but a huge upgrade to have power steering assist on these trucks. Some go for the disc brakes at the same time. But between those two upgrades, I'd do power steering first.

Also the price is going to depend a lot on where you live. If you went to an auction around here, that truck might go 8 grand and it might go 800. Last spring I bought a 74 Ford Quadravan with 63,000 miles, always kept in a garage, and got it for $900 on auction, sold it for $4500 and that guy got over 12 grand on ebay. Right place and the right time.

I installed a '78 F150 Saginaw PS gear box, '78 F150 tilt steering column and a Ford C-2 PS pump/brackets and pulleys from an '82 F150 that had a 300 inline six (I have a 240). --the FE engines ended production in 1976.
The Ford C-2 PS pump didn't come out until 1978. A Ford power steering pump on an FE would be the Thompson 'pencil neck' pump with a stamped steel reservoir and a skinny dipstick tube.

Benbloom, 40,000 original miles stored in a garage! I'd jump on it! However, San Francisco, CA (my old home of 20 years) is no cheap place to buy an old bumpside. I expect that this guy will want top dollar (and probably get it if there are no other problems with the rig).
For you, will this be a city truck parked on SF streets? I have a bumpside in Seattle and I have to admit that I'm a bit tired after driving it around the city (and I have power steering!) Not trying to discourage you, just pointing out all sides.
BTW, I paid $6500 for a no rust 1970 F-250 4 x4 with new (albeit 6 cylinder) engine, and new transmission. While there will be many here who will view that as high, I think I got a very fair deal for a west coast truck in great condition. Eggs are definitely cheaper in the country, but you aren't going to find many 40,000 mile garaged trucks out on the farm.

Price depends a lot on where you buy as well. In CA, you can't find a truck like this for $3-4K, you can barely find a running/driving F100 for that.
According to the CL Ad, this is a 68' with 42K original miles, 360 engine, 3 on the tree.
Wants $8700 for it, seems reasonable for SF. Be more appealing in the city as a DD with a C6 and PS though.
