I moved my camshaft by mistake?!! Am I screwed?

okay doing the timing on my 2008 expedition 5.4L 3v

while replacing the phasers (with the chain off) I moved the camshaft on the (RH) driver side. Like... alot. can I just move them clockwise to the correct position and fire it up? or is everything bent all to hell??

please help!?

I do realize I'm in over my head. grown man about to cry here...

if you moved it by hand, it is very unlikely you have bent anything. alternately, if you had a breaker bar on it, and really put your weight on it to rotate it, then you probably did.

I hope you used the wedge tool on the chain tensioner.

Ive got the timing chains completely off. front timing cover off. found broken plastic guides. I'm in the process of putting it all back together now. well see if it either explodes or runs. I'll keep everyone posted once I try it. thanks.

You should be fine, was prob the pass side right ? Just roll it back. It moved do to the tension of the phaser spring. Same thing happened to mine, I just did the complete swap too from MMR Motorsports all chains gears guides phasers both VCT solenoids, not too bad of a job. Best thing to have is the timing tool that goes on the crank and matches up with the pin on the block. Then check the direction of the phasers. I don't know how bad your chains were but my driver's side was so bad that it was hitting the case and was stretched so badly that you could take your finger and thumb on opposite sides of the chain and they nearly touched with the tensioner in place.

Thank you! ended up moving both cams as I had them completely messed up. all is great except there's got to be some gunk in the pickup screen. but that's another story. when it idles correctly its perfect. no damage!

Glad to hear that everything worked out for you !
It is stressful turning that key the first time though.
Maybe I should check my pick up screen too.

How dirty was the inside of the engine ? Mine wasn't too bad.
