Looking for those who have used later model door seals
I searched and found another user on FTE that had installed later model (80-97?) door seals on his truck but nothing was said about the fit. The idea behind them was that they had the metal band in them which could be "pinched" around the metal rail in the door jamb instead of having to glue the seal in. Has anyone else done this? I am getting ready to buy all new seals and felts for my crew but am just wanting to make sure it worked and fit good before I buy them. I know crsweet was one who may have tried it. I sent him a pm but haven't heard back. Thanks in advance!

I got a used/JY set of those seals with the metal on the inside. They came off a 80's-90's? truck and seem to test fit real well. I have yet to install them for good, since I am still working on the interior.
I know that I will have to trim them shorter where the aluminium door sill plate step goes.

This is one of my longer-term goals. Every time I hit the junkyard, I bring a cross-section of door seal from my truck to compare to door seals from newer vehicles. I've got a few "okay" fits, but always on the lookout for a "great" fit. I'll reply back with specifics if I ever find one. Some of the better fitting seal types have come from BMW/MBenz/Volvo/Audi vehicles. But of course their lengths & bends don't much come close to our trucks.

Used some off the newest OBS truck I could find...1995, put them in a 1979 F-250 we just painted the ones we ordered new were terrible couldn't shut door without slamming the crap out of it! Had to cut and trim the 95 seals a little but worked great and no sealer goop used and door shuts like a new truck. My 2 cents....

Thanks for the responses guys. I thought about just buying a new set for 80-97 trucks but maybe I can snag some in the junkyard too. Never thought of them still being good but I guess it's worth a shot! I put new 73-79 seals on my last restore but was not happy with the weatherstrip glue getting all over everything and squeezing out from underneath the seal. I would think this would be a lot cleaner and simpler route.
