My CVF RACING pulley combo is specifically made "so you can retain your standard rotation pump." I RAN out to the garage and bolted the CVF RACING pulley onto my old water pump. Bolted right on no problem. Well.....one problem....my mechanic says the old water pump is reverse rotation. Went to the ford dealership. He couldn't tell me if the pump I showed him was forward or reverse or what it may have come off of. I am not able to insert photos. I have done it in the past. Anyone else having that problem?

I grabbed a reverse rotation pulley off my shelf. Measuring the holes:
Across - 2.070"
Side - 1.466"

I know the 1979 F-150 V belt pulley I used to have the bolt spacing was different and the several fan spacers I tried to see if it would clear also wouldn't fit my reverse rotation pump.

A picture would probably be helpful. I would go to a parts store and look at the pump impeller for a 94-95 5.0 Stang. It is definitely reverse rotation as Nathan already stated.

Hey Matt,
If you think you will be on here pretty often - you might want to join.
Membership costs $20 & get's rid of most of the annoying advertising & you
get a little paper clip icon that you click & just post pics from your hard drive (very easy).

Posting some pics might make this easier.

Good luck over there in Bakersfield.

I will probably do that, thanks.

I went back to my mechanic today with both the old and new water pump. Three mechanics looked at it and REVERSED(couldn't help myself) their previous ruling, after looking at both impellers side by side. Both my old pump and new pump are clockwise rotation. My conventional wisdom had me (and others) thinking that the impeller captured or cupped the water and then slung it in a certain direction. In reality (correct me if I am wrong) it draws it or drags it to where it needs to go. Both pumps have the tombstone ports and they match the timing cover. I could just put the new one on and expect to have good result. I still want to find out exactly which timing cover and water pump combo I started with and/or what vehicle they were originally in just in case I have to order stock ford replacements in the future. That's just me. This was hard enough with the engine on a stand. I would never want to hassle this with the engine in the truck.

Timing cover might be a little easier to narrow down. Basically with or without mechanical fuel pump, crank position sensor, dipstick, impeller rotation. I think that should be it and should get you in a narrow year range. Narrow enough anyway.

Well it is confirmed that I can use my new aftermarket clockwise rotation water pump with my current timing chain cover. HOWEVER.....My old water pump had three holes around each water port and my new pump only has two per each port. I would really feel more comfortable if I could find one with three holes per port. WHAT I NEED is a water pump with the lower radiator connection on the driver side and three holes per port. Maybe a heavy duty application as stated earlier. Anyone have any idea how to track that UNICORN down?

That's easy to find. Look up a 1983-91 LTD Crown Victoria 351W with Taxi or Police package. A thing to note is that they tend to be cast iron and not aluminum.
