I'd like to get the adapters (less work, save me the trouble of finding and transporting a whole axle), but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any help?
Apparently there are adapters to put 8 lug wheels on a 5 lug axle (from Franklin's post above). If you got them it seems like it should be possible to get 8 lug duallie wheels and cobble something together. But as Franklin said, clearance to the frame isn't a gimme. Also the half ton bearings might not appreciate the loading they could end up seeing. If you're set on rear duals I think it'd be a lot easier and better to get an axle from an F-350 duallie (no such thing as an F-250 duallie).

F-350 pickups have wider spacing between the spring perches than F-350 cab-and-chassis. I'm not sure which is closer to your F-150 frame, but I'd guess the pickup. Still, with the amount of fabricating you'll need to do for this entire project, moving spring perches is nothing. For that matter, with all the steel you're going to need to find and transport, getting a duallie axle isn't a big deal either.

Of course this would mean your front and rear wheels would have different lug patterns. But that probably wouldn't be a big concern for a project like this.

My comment was a euphemism saying: What would you DO with such a thing? What sort of utility and usefulness does it have? Does it haul a camper or construction materials from Home Depot or landscaping rock? Probably not. Can it be used for rock crawling and camping and four wheeling? Probably not. Can it be licensed and driven on the street and act as a DD in the snow? Probably not. The actual, physical MPH is irrelevant anyplace except maybe the salt flats of Utah.

I used to sit around campfires late at night with other Scout leaders. That gave a lot of time to talk about a lot of things. One of the things we realized is that we all spend time, effort and money on stupid things. I was building a '71 Bronco, which one other leader in particular thought was ridiculous. On the other hand, he had a ham radio setup that cost close to what my Bronco cost, and had a laser pointer that he paid over $100 for. So we decided that as long as we were happy with the stupid things we were spending money on it was all good.

Do I think it's a good use of time and money to build a replica of a movie prop? Absolutely not, so I won't do it. But if the OP wants to, so what? I can still try to answer his questions.

I am Not knocking the reasoning behind the build, I am however knocking HOW he place to cobble it together

Bolting one adapter to another adapter is half assed no matter how you look at it

I'm interested in how the backwards rear mounted blown engine is going to drive those duallies.
Back in the day... rear engined 'wheelie cars' were a good show at the drag races.

It'll be like the old book, 'unsafe at any speed'.

Looks to me like the movie vehicle has a fake second engine up back. The original is still up forward.
Also appears to be made from a 1 ton truck, you can see the massive rear leafs in the first picture in the thread.

I would find a 1 ton truck with a decent frame and work with that, but I second the above suggestion of buying a 1 ton dually axle for the rear.

You can see the solid front axle... and that didn't come in any half tons.

But the OP has already rejected the idea of getting the right vehicle and doing away with all this bs.
I guess he's only interested in some buring man 'art car' and not the safety of any innocent bystanders.

If it were otr in my juristiction it would be towed on sight and likely crushed, because it wouldn't be leaving the impound until it was properly inspected and registered.

Just as an fyi, a lot of landscaping companies upgrade fairly often, so an OBS F350 dually dump truck shouldn't be too hard to come by on CL.

Well the narrower springs and frame rails of a CC would fit with the stated objective...

Why would he want to do that when he could bolt one adapter to another than ad 400lbs of tire and wheel
