Loud Dieseling on Start Up

2010 Expedition, 36k problem free miles until this morning. It is making a loud diesel sound for lack of a better description on start up. Afterwards it is fine, runs and pulls as it should like nothing is wrong. No CEL.

The video doesn't work from my phone, but seems to from the iPad. In case it doesn't play for you, it is an instantaneous racket, then stops and is fine. With a quick restart it will not do it, but if you wait a minute or two it will do it again.

Timing Chaing Tensioners. Need to get it fixed asap. The guides break apart and the little pieces clog up oil paths. Had mine done under warranty.

The dealer just told me that, so good call. Parts will be there Monday and hopefully back in business by Tuesday. Interesting correlation to the thread you included the link to - the dealer said no big deal to drive it and I could use it for the weekend if I needed it. Apparently that didn't work out too well for someone else. I must have about 10 minutes of 5/50 power train coverage left because it is covered.

In 500k of driving 5.4 motors, never had this issue.

Yeah, the blocked oil channels won't rear their heads until your long out of warranty.

Had this happen on 3 of our fleet 5.4 motors. Happened to mine with 50K miles.

Glad you are getting it fixed.

I'm glad too, either way it was going to be done, just lucky I'm not paying. Hopefully no long term issues, we got on it right away, it was only started in this condition a dozen times.
