My wife lost 3rd gear on the way to take the kids to school the other day. Threw a bunch of codes that I was able to pull (bad 1-2 shift, bad 2-3 shift, 3rd gear ratio bad, tranny over temp, etc). Pulled the pan, and found lots of metal flakes and a few 2-4mm nuggets. Fluid was slightly maroon/brown and looked like a girls glitter party.
Time for a new tranny....let the fun begin. Oh, and the money spending
Maintenance history since 205,000 is all I know. I changed and flushed fluid when I got it (at about 210k). Only 50k on it since I have had it, and it has been driven by the wife 95% of the time. Oh, and it has/had the mechanical diode.
Make sure you throw in a 6.0 oil cooler DON'T USE YOUR OLD OIL COOLER! As it may be contaminated. Make sure you flush the cooler lines when you rebuild the tranny.
Bently, I am looking at the 4R100HD, but prices are all over the place depending on the dealership. Local dealer said it would take them 2 weeks to get one. They also want $700 more than Fordparts.com
Because of cost, JW and BTS are a pipe dream. Will not even be considering them.
