What oil do you use and why?

I changed mine at 5000 just before a cross country trip, but 7800 miles later got warning to change again. I picked up more T6 from Walmart and went to a Ford Quick Lane at 7:30am where they changed it using my oil. You might want to do it that way. You can also drive it until it tells you to change. There is no real reason to change at 5000 or 3500. That is 1970s thinking. The oil filter catches anything that could be a problem and manufacturing has changed a lot in the last few decades. Ford will tell you to just use the Oil Life Monitor.
Thanks! Maybe will just take it all with me and do it on the road if need be.

My 2016 went with synthetic Mobil One 5w-40 truck runs great starts fast in the cold no chattering and banging i like that a lot better than the 10w30 that came in it. Also happy to report I don't have the ticking noise that most people report after the first oil change if it's there I can't hear it. One thing I've noticed it seems to be getting louder overall engine and turbo is much more audible don't really mind it too much I just didn't want to sit on a chugging tractor it's one of the reasons I put off buying a diesel my friends 14 is much quieter at 63000 miles he says he likes mine better I'd rather not hear the rattle of a diesel one of the mechanics at my shop claims they put something in the engines when they first roll off the factory for breaking and quietness don't know how much I believe it , but it's definitely getting louder a young guy on a job site asked me if I had it tuned sounded cool I said no its stock too funny

I used Valvoline Blue in my old 6.4, worst oil I put in, fuel mileage went down truck just felt sluggish, maybe you will have better luck; dumped it after 3K miles went back to Rotella 14-40 things improved then decided to try Schaeffers 7000 15-40 mileage went up and power felt better oil analysis looked great. I have 9500 mi. on my 6.7 next oil change in goes the full syn Schaeffer's 9000 5-40, Schaeffer's is the oldest oil co. in America, family owned. No, I do not have a stake in the company.

The Delo 5w40 is an excellent group III syn oil, nice additive package, had great UOA over the years in many applications. Chevron isn't our commercial lube supplier now, Co-op does our fuel and lubes. I do a 0w40 group IV full syn for the winter, and a mineral 15w40 CJ-4 in the summer months.

Running Delo 5W40 Full Syn in my 2013 since 5K miles. I changed to that at first oil change. I read a few years ago, Chevron Delo Syn is only syn on market that starts with a full syn base, not petro base like (at the time) T6. I change every 5K, truck is used mostly for towing my 5th wheel, but if used for daily driver, a lot of stop/go traffic. I am now at 36K on truck and just finished an oil change. Use MC filters too.

I run Rotella T6 Synthetic also, I started using it in mine at the 10K oil change, I know folks that run Delo and Motorcraft with good results. As others stated, run only motorcraft filters, I order all of my supplies on Amazon, while not cheap, alot better than local parts stores, I usually find them at a reduced price online and order a few at a time.

Mobile 1 5/40 in mine. I used to use Rotella T6 until I learned that it wasn't fully synthetic. Before anyone freaks out, it now is apparently fully synthetic with a class 4 base composition throughout but it wasn't always that way. It has always been advertised as a "synthetic" oil but 5 years ago it was a synthetic blend which I thought was a little deceptive. That turned me off at the time and I went back to what I knew.
Both oils spec out similarly with the exception that there's quite a difference in viscosity at lower temps. T6 being 87 and Mobile 1 being 97 at 40 degrees. The Mobile 1 is "thicker" when cool or cold. Is that good? Not sure.

The only bad choice in oil, IMO, is wrong viscosity for the application and not following the right maintenance intervals to match the service. Mobil is great, the 40c is not as important as the lower pour point the mobil has over the shell, and the thicker/heavier viscosity rating it also has over the shell at 100c. Great oil. There is a huge amount of great mineral, syn blends, and full syns we all can choose from, most will work better than we could ever notice or measure. UOA is important to find out what works with your rig and what does not. I'm running lubes that cost a fraction of boutique lubes or group IV/V's, I use a group II mineral 15/40 in the summer that is dirt cheap, and UOA results come out awesome. No need to change for any other reason besides weather, so I use a deadly 0w40 syn lube with a -57c pour point, in case the block heater fails.

Some awesome info here, these guys speak their own language, lots of UOA results too.

I ran WalMart Tech 15-40 for years in my 2011 when I traded in at 125k it still ran excellent with no oil use between changes. Go figure.. certified for our engines is true.
With my 2016 I've run Rotella mostly..why? insecure about "great value" brand..Ha. I see the difference in crackers, etc. over name brands.
