Getting ready for little road trip

Well, I'd say the road trip was a success. Got my dad's stuff moved to Idaho in time, and had plenty of fun and minimal problems along the way. If i was to do a big trip like this again, it would definitely involve at least another week (we were gone for 2 weeks exactly) so you aren't driving so much every day. Was definitely burnt out with driving.
28 states, 8,355 miles...average of probably 14-15mpg
We left CT 2 sunday's ago at 7PM. Drove non-stop 31 hours to Rapid City, SD and got there around midnight. Slept for a bit, woke up and headed to Mt rushmore.
Sunrise in indiana somewhere
Chicago...at 830am on a monday lol
Some cool skies headed through minnesota at sunset after a thunderstorm
Wooden bridge we thought was cool on the way to mt rushmore
Im the tall one.
The road out there was awesome, and we took some really cool roads leaving the monument as well. Took all back roads to head back to 80 in Wyoming, and then headed up through Sheridan to Billings, MT.
Headed west through Bozeman pass and found some snow...
Ended up at a buddies house in Helena, MT, although he wasn't there...he is in ft benning at airborne school, but will be home in a few weeks so he asked us to get his 6.0 running because it has sat since november. 2 batteries and some fuel additive and it was running good as new.
The neighboorhood where his truck was parked was quite nice
It died in a parking lot lol
We then headed to the top of Macdonald pass just outside helena and did a little offroading. May or may not have climbed a tower as well.
Had a bonfire at another buddies house that night, and just did some resting and relaxing until the next morning. It was a good stop for 2 days
The next morning we headed for Twin Falls, Idaho. My friend's 6.0 that we worked on has a fiance who lives there, and it happened to be his birthday..so we met up with her for dinner, and were able to Facetime him for his birthday together which was cool. On the way, we stopped at Craters of the Moon park which was pretty neat
Stopped the heavy traffic to take some pictures in the desert.
After dinner in idaho, we stopped at shoshone falls which was beautiful.
Sunset on our way to Boise.
Made it to boise around 9pm, unloaded all my dads stuff with his fiance, had dinner and a few drinks, made a new friend...then got back on the road headed for Lake tahoe

We drove all night to head to lake tahoe, and ended up there sometime in the morning. Was a long drive through absolutely nothing in the desert in nevada all night. Happened to pull over to use the bathroom at one point around 1am, looked up...most amazing stars i have ever seen in my life. Wish i was better with my DSLR to take pictures of them.
Headed up the pass into lake tahoe we ran into our first and only major problem...my fan decided to suck in the wiring for the fan clutch and shredded it. Truck got a little warm, but not enough to defuel it so we pulled over into a DOT garage and rewired the fan. Still didn't want to turn on, though.
Lake Tahoe. We stopped further down the lunch at a park and grilled some burgers right on the shore
Stopped at a friends house in California on our way to san fransisco, to replace my fan clutch. Some of you may know him
Unfortunately, the new fan clutch was bad out of the box...but we continued on anyways as we no longer had a trailer to increase temperatures.
We stayed in san fransisco that night, and headed to the bridge in The morning. Roughly 3900 miles at that point i believe, from atlantic to pacific
From there, we headed to the Pacific Coast Highway and drove a good chunk of it. Was beautiful. Stopped at half moon bay brewing company for lunch as well and had some great food and beers.
Stopped to watch the sun set over the coastline
From there, we drove to just outside bakersfield california to get some sleep. Woke up in the morning and headed for Sequoia National Park
Our next stop after this was Vegas. Not a big party person, but still had a good time. We ate at gordon ramsay's burger bar and also his pub and grille...very good food.
Also went to the hoover dam while we were in Vegas

After vegas, our next stops were Zion National park, Bryce canyon and grand canyon. Unfortunately we didn't spend much time at any of these parks, but still very cool to see. Bryce canyon was my favorite

Grand canyon (north rim)
Leaving grand canyon, headed for 4 corners
Driving through another mountain
Horseshoe bend
Made it to 4 corners. Apparently they close at some point during the day
Our next stop was Durango Colorado. Sadly, another place we didnt get to stay very long..was looking forward to it. Definitely will be going back there in the future.
Not sure where all my pictures between there and Texas went
We decided to take the somewhat southern route, and went through Amarillo. Stopped at cadillac ranch which was an interesting site
Of course we found one
Stopped at Saltgrass steakhouse in amarillo, and had probably the best ribs of my life.
After Amarillo, we headed for Nashville for the night. Went to eat and went to the country music hall of fame, then hung out for a bit and got ready to head home in the morning.
They had a Dierks Bentley exhibit for a few weeks there, which was cool because he is one of my favorite artists.
After that, wasn't very exciting...just headed home. Overall, we had a ton of fun and some great memories, but i do wish we could have spent more time at a lot of places. Besides the fan clutch, only other issue with my truck was having to plug a tire because of a screw.

Looks like you had a great time. And I couldn't imagine a more comfortable truck to take. I think a few of the photo links may not be quite right... or it could be my phone. That's an awesome trip I wish I would've taken when I was in my early 20s. The photos came out great! I have been to Utah for work and from that I've learned id like to drive through the Rockies. I think a cross Canada to Alaska trip should be next 😉
