Would You Buy an Entry-Level Power Stroke V8?

Cummins and Nissan were kind enough to answer my questions about the 2016 Nissan Titan XD's 5.0-liter Cummins turbo diesel V8 when I was in Columbus, Indiana a couple of weeks ago. There was one question I didn't ask them, though. I knew only you Ford lovers could provide the proper response to it.

people that buy Super Duty trucks do so for one reason and that is to pull or haul loads. if I just wanted to buy a couple of sheets of plywood than a F150 would work great. Now should Ford put a smaller diesel in the 150? Sure I bet it would sell but the added cost of the diesel may not be worth it for those buyers. A smaller diesel wouldn't work for us heavy haulers. We need the H/P and torque. Now if they could get rid of the smog crap and make them burn cleaner than winner winner chicken dinner.

If you think "entry level" as a bare bones XL work truck diesel than YES I WOULD/COULD! If I could afford the payments I want to trade in my 2004 F350 and get a new crew cab long bed F350 with diesel, cab lights, snow plow prep, e-locker with steepest gears available, 18" steel wheels and up fitter switches. Everything else would be bare bone XL vinyl seat and floor, manual windows locks and mirrors, and black bumpers and grill... Now if ford offers a manual six speed trans THAT WOULD BE THE ICING ON THE CAKE!!

yes i would, the 6.0 and 6.4 is a good engine as long as you do not try to chip them and do a bunch of crazy mods, they have plenty of power as is and do good. the 6.0 can get really good mpg especially with 20 inch wheel and 373 gears, my king ranch with 6.4 does awesome pulling and not to bad on mpg even with 430 gears, i can get 10-12 pulling my 33ft camper and 14-16 empty. the 6.0 i have i have seen it get over 18mpg and up to 20 on flat areas and it pulls good too.

I would like to see a diesel in the F150 & Expedition. Just imagine a Expedition EL all the kids & Grandma too getting 30mpg on a road trip!

The 3.2 could do nicely in the F150, but I don't know that it would do anything the gas motors can't do. It does not get 30 MPG in the Transit.

Yes, all day long. Putting something like the 5L Cummins in the Super Duty would be a fantastic idea. Nearly identical power output to the 6.0L PSD, and presumably more efficient than the larger 6.7L.

Offer that option for $5,000 instead of the $8,300 for the 6.7 and I think you'd have a winner. The Kenworth road tractor I turned in at my last company had 435 HP, I certainly don't need that much power from a pickup truck.

Read the rest on the Ford-Trucks.com homepage. At various times, I haul an enclosed car trailer, a boat and a small RV trailer, none of which is over 8500 pounds GVW. The 5.4L gas engine uses a lot of fuel. A turbodiesel V8 in an F150 is just what I need. No need for an F250.

If they would do anything it definitely would not be a Cummins. Ford is happy and doing well making their own diesels in the entire lineup now.
