Love the idea, but I'm in the same boat. After hearing "only" 16.5 for Rodney I googled it, 14:45 for me, about 950 miles.
Wife has never, ever been on a long car ride. We leave September 11 for a 5 hour ride into the Virginia mountains along 81, and then December 26 for 16 hours to Carl's neck of the woods in Florida. We'll see how she does. Then maybe cross this bridge.

That's a good start.
My wife is also an excellent shot.
I have a 25 gallon beer cooler I use.
Bladder training was the biggest issue I had breaking the wife in for road tripping.
