Where to Cut.......

Greetings all........

Not to beat a dead horse here, but before I start a cutting, I need to clarify a few things.

A little history.....I did get and installed an 04 grill on my 2000 EX and have finally gotten around to buying the 05 headlights.

I need to cut my header to fit my 05 headlights....See attached photo from another thread/post. If I follow this template, it appears that I will cut all of my mounting points off. How/where will the new light attach?

Is it easier to remove the header to cut it or can it be cut in place?

Thanks all.........

That shows you cutting off 2 of the 5 factory light mounting points.

Before cutting match the headlights mounting points you plan to install with your proposed cuts.

Another option is buy a 05 header panel, they are pretty cheap and easy to install.

I've thought about changing the header panel, but I've already purchased and installed the 04 grill...........

You'll be fine if you just don't cut too much... I did it on the truck with those same instructions. I cut too little at first, then made it perfect.
My OCD was in full swing so it took too long, and if I had it to do over, I probably would just get the header!
I used a Dremel tool with a diamond cutoff wheel, after trying a crappy standard sawblade and crappier cutoff wheel. That worked well.

Were you able to use all of the existing mounting holes?

It's been awhile, but those instructions were spot on. The new headlites only use a couple of the old mounts, so most of them go away.
Hold the new lights up there and you'll see.

Thanks again.......Did you cut yours in place or did you remove the header panel from the truck?

Did you reuse the metal clips from the top of your old lights on the new ones?

I'm not sure I can pull mine out without damaging them.

Oh yeah, those. I forgot about them.
I'd suggest going maybe to a body shop or good hardware store to try to find suitable replacements... I got mine from a NAPA store, but they aren't really right. The sheetmetal screws they had weren't right either, so I need to find something else eventually. Maybe next time at Pick n Pull. I bet the stealership has 'em; for a price!

Where to Cut.......

I have 05 headlights and was going to follow this same template. I saw another forum someone talking about getting new hardware but they didn't specify what they got. So that's what has prevented me from doing this because I have no idea how the new lights will attach and with what. If you figure it out or know, please post.

Juan, just spend the few bucks and get the correct header panel and save a few hours cutting and scrubbing fiberglass off of yourself

I'm going to start on mine this weekend.....What I think I will do is follow the posted template, but start removing material from the center of the template out. Then as I cut, hold the 05 headlight and check the fit.

Maybe I won't have to remove all of the material as suggested by the template.

Will post pics.........Thanks all!
