Short answer is no.

This is our second work truck. The first is a 2012 which has been bullet-proof. Doesn't use any oil. Since the first truck has been so good and the oil life display says 100% checking the oil level didn't seem necessary...doh.

I wouldn't tell the dealer it was never checked

Every new truck I've ever bought had the oil change at or before the 3K mark and every motor I built I did the same just to remove anything that may have gotten in the oil from motor break in period.

Relocating Harness - Tested (I'm Happy)

I just finished a month-long swing through the state of Texas. It was 1,500 miles of towing my 9,000 pound fifth wheel RV along with an additional 1,500 miles of exploring. I had zero problems with the starting. I won't go into the problem or the solution since they are clearly spelled out in the posts in this thread.

I don't think I'll ever get back to the total 100% confidence level I once had in my truck, but I'm guessing it is in the mid 90% level now and still growing.

Whenever I see another F-250 truck I make it a point to quickly tell the owner about the harness, its location in relation to the parking brake, the potential problems and solution. Although I have the speech down to less than 1 minute now, some still look at me like I'm a nut.

Ya'll take care.

I've been problem free as well. I know what you mean with the confidence. It's just not the same; I still have the what if laying in the back of my head. Would not usually be an issue to me but something that dumb and easy to render the truck totally dead bothered me. Makes me question other important electrical connections. Good to hear is going well.

Good to hear all is well. I have my speech ready also. Hopefully it will help someone along the way.

I was speaking to a guy with a magnificently customized 2015 550 (matched his amazing 5th-wheel) about the issue. He had been left stranded twice while towing but not for this issue. He thought his truck had the harness in the same place but I never confirmed with him.

Thanks to the information found here, I feel pretty good about this issue.

So my truck is throwing all the same lights, but I've tried the parking break multiple time and the truck still won't crank I had it towed to the dealer today and they are saying it's the PCM and want 1,700. To replace it have any of you replaced the PCM and did it fix the problem? Thanks

Have you or the dealership taken the connector apart looked at the pins and put it back together?

Can't say for sure if anyone has replaced PCM but I'd inspect the connector directly before going after the PCM.

I was going to ask the same thing. I think someone also had a connection fail under the hood as well. You might actually have a bad pcm but practically every person on this post had found a problem with the harness, typically the one attached at the parking brake. The dealer definitely seems to not be able to tell between a bad harness or pcm issue either being they show the same symptoms. Checking the harness first is what I would do, its pretty much free to do. Let us know how you make out.

I assume the truck is out of warranty since they are quoting 1700 to fix. How old is the truck and how many miles? If under 8yr/80,000 miles that repair should be covered under the federal emissions controls warranty. That warranty covers the ECU and TCM for 8ys/80,000 miles.

The dealer will not always mention this warranty coverage, if you look in your owners manual it is in there. I just went though this with a toyota dealer. My mother in law needed the ECU replaced in her Matrix, they quoted me 1100. When I mentioned this federal emissions warranty, the service writer had to "check with his manager". When he got back to me, he told me the repair would be covered under warranty.

Also, if the part is covered under the emissions warranty, then any diagnostic fees associated with the repair would also be covered.

Thanks for the info, it's a 2011 F250 with 111,000 miles on it. They said they went through the connector with no success so they are replacing the PCM I'll keep you guys updated, thanks for all the help so far.

Thanks for posting this thread, I am a new owner of a 2016 F250 XLT 6.2 and will be isolating that connector off the emergency brake bracket. I only have 2500 miles on mine so do not expect any issues. Great forum. Thanks again.

Good idea. My 14 has been trouble-free since isolating the connector. Here's to continued success for all of us!

Just a FYI on my 2016 F250 CC 4X4 that connector is not mounted on the parking brake bracket. It is above the bracket tucked between the bracket and side panel.

Wow, that is interesting Koolbreeze. I guess the move validates the findings of Projectnitemare and others on the forum.

Thanks for posting your findings.
