1989 Ranger

Greetings gang,

A buddy has an 89 Ranger 4wd with a 2.9.

We live in California, there is a pipe coming off of the driver side exhaust manifold and it won't pass smog without it. I don't know the name of the pipe. We found one, but can't get it to crack loose to find another either online or ebay or new etc.

Anyone know what that pipe is? We can't block it off.

Thanks

Nappers

Sounds like the EGR tube, but i thought 88 was the last year to have an EGR valve. Is this the original factory engine?

Yeah it may be an 88. He has a similar year Chevy! I think it's the EGR tube. We can't get it to budge. Truck in a junk yard. He has part of the tube but the other half missing. I thought of cutting off and solder together the two halves with a coupler..... It may be stainless steel. Not sure.

Well if all else fails Dorman has the tube for 48 bucks. They say it is stainless.

Hmm, could one cut the pipe at the manifold and solder it on using copper coupling?

I would think it can be soldered like plumbing for water.....

I'll check Dorman out, Thanks 87XLT!
