Top end tick
Ok gang,
Week before last I got tied up in traffic and got my 302 hot enough to boil over. I pulled off, got it cooled down and drove it without any other problems. The truck sat all last week while I was out of town and I decided today to make a beer run in it. The closest store is 8 miles from the house.
It fired up, idled fine, but when I pulled out and stepped into it, the power seemed muted. Ran it up to about 70 or so between here and the end of the road. Leaving the stop sign, I stepped into it again, this time was greeted with the healthy small block roar I love so much.
Drove fine all the way to the store and back, no missing or popping. When I slowed to enter my drive, I started to hear a tick, That i had not heard over the exhaust earlier. It's coming from the #1 cylinder... Gave it a little rev and it sounds like a rocker arm.
Or a sticky lifter. Is it possible I jacked something up when it over heated? It's due an oil change, should I run a sea foam treatment thru the crankcase, do an oil/filter change and then do a lash adjustment? Top end was rebuilt less than 20k ago by p.o.
Any thoughts or advice? Thanks in advance
