Boosting voltage?

Have a 01 excurison v10 and i want to boost the voltage up some. I heard the Diesel voltage reg are 14.7-15. Can u put one of those on my v10? Or do the make a adjustable one?

Why would you want to do that?
If voltages get much higher than 14.5 the battery starts to get cooked.
Do you mean you need more amps?
The stock alternators for the V10 are 110 or 130 amps.
There are 200 amp or more alternators available.

Its for car audio reasons and i want to get 15v. 15v is safe for batterys. And i can get custom 370a ones but i what higher voltage for more watts.

I'm not positive, put I'm fairly certain the regulators are internal to the alternator.

Really? I figured the gassers where the same as the Diesel electrical system

Most regulators on modern vehicles are internal to the alternator.

A good starter/alternator shop should be able to replace it with a beefier unit provided space isn't an issue.

Diesel alternators produce no more than the gas alts.

Plus, the rule of thumb is you don't want over 14.7/8 volts. Long term it will shorten the life of the system, to include the batteries.

Get a good capacitor for your sound system.

15 volts is NOT save for 12v automotive batteries over the long haul. Even the AGM's don't like it. Anything over 14.5 and things start getting hot. And the capacitor may not even help depending on your needs. You probably need more batteries if you are talking serious power needs.

Caps are a joke unless u are running the bigger ones like 50-60f. I have run 15v+ daily for years in my comp vehicles and no problem. I even had 8 optima red tops and they were fine at 15.2 for the 4 years they were in there and even fine when i sold them all

I would run a dedicated RV/Marine deep cycle battery for the sound system. Even if you have someone do some mods to the alternator to put out more voltage, the PCM will not let it charge that high.

14.5 is a standard charge. And like i said in the above post i have run a bunch of batterys over 15v and fine for years. Even optima says 15.6 max. Anything under that is fine for a agm 99% of the time. I do it competitive for years.

The PCM doesn't regulate the voltage output by the alternator.

I changed the alt in my daughters F250 and something like 4 months later the regulator went wonky and it started overcharging at 15.8v (as determined by a plug in volt meter in the dashboard power point and double-checked with a multi-meter on the battery with the engine running) and caused the battery/charge light to illuminate on the dash as well as other electrical problems.
