Rrrrust repair on the ol' Ford

Finally got around to fixing the rust that was plaguing my truck at the rear corner of both front door jams. I guess there's a rain channel that runs along there and Ford put some seam sealer in there. I removed the section of sealer so it would drain down instead of backing up and causing the rust. I wire wheeled what I could but since it's in the corner it's tough to do it with just that so I sandblasted it real good. Primed and painted. It's far from perfect but then again so is the truck. I didn't use any body filler. It was all on the surface and I figured I'd just screw it up worse with filler. It's not noticeable at all now that the paint is on it. Hopefully I could get another year or so out of it before having to do it again.

The problem - rust right where the running board meets the extended cab sheet metal on driver and passenger side

Wire wheeled

Sand blasted

Primed with self etching primer

Painted

Looks good to me. I'd enjoy learning how to spray a body evenly like that.

Thanks! Actually this was done with a rattle can! There is a Sherwin Williams automotive paint store near me. I gave them my paint code and they mixed it up. It's single stage. But I thinknit turned out fine for me. It's not a show truck. And in NE Ohio you're going to get rust if you drive your truck. You can soak the thing in a vat of oil and it's still going to rust. I'm just trying to keep it looking decent as long as I can.

That will slow it down, just remember the rust is between the 2 panels and will reappear

Looks good and you did it with a shaker can. I'd do the same to mine, but I think if I started removing the rust it would just fall apart, I think the rust is the only thing holding together...LOL

Yeah that's what I figured. That's why I tried sandblasting it. I used fine Black Diamond and shot it at those seems hard for a while trying to get in as far as I can. I plan on Fluid Filming underneath before the snow starts falling. I only put about 3,000 miles on it a year at this point but still drive it in the rain and some snow.
