1979 F350 4x4 460 swap?
I'm swapping a 460 into my '79 F350 4x4 with a NP435 4-speed. I'm going to use the L&L mounts with my 400 frame mounts for the motor. My question is I'm using the 400m bellhousing, I had a 390 flywheel but it wouldn't clean up when I had it turned. I'm wondering what flywheel and clutch to order from the parts store. I'm wanting to go with an 11.5" diaphragm style clutch, any idea what part numbers I need to order and which store is best?

It's a 36 year old truck truck that has had the holy hell used out of it, it's been my daily driver for the for the last 8 years. When I bought it it the original boat anchor 400 was gone and had been replaced by one out of a car, I swapped it for a 300 six that worked really good but but had a crack in in the block between cylinder number 1 and 2 that it didn't know about, my neighbor had had a 460 cheaper than rebuilding the 300 so that's where I'm at. All that being said this is not Barrett Jackson.

I read all the things that needed done; 360/390 flywheel, certain pilot bearing, diaphragm clutch.
I was traded an L&L flywheel, so all I needed was the clutch/pilot. L&L says only their clutch bolts up,, well I tried my stock 351/400 clutch and it bolted right up. I went to buy a new one and got this one: PowerTorque K0080-02HD - Clutch Kit | O'Reilly Auto Parts
It fit perfect and I even used the pilot that came with it.
NOW, I do not know if mine is an oddball or what, but they may not all be like that. I do not know if my crank has been machined to accept this pilot. The engine has been bored 30, so it's possible. Just food for thought.

If you haven't bought the mounts yet I think you might want to reconsider. I have seen some dissatisfaction with L&L mounts as far as longevity and alignment goes. I have read complaints about fans not lining up and the laminated mounts separating. I used the west coast broncos mounts and they are pretty bullet proof and everything lined up perfectly (fan shroud, trans, etc). I think they will last a long time.

Here they are mounted on my motor...
Sorry can't help with the clutch related stuff. But this guy has a nice list of parts needed...

If you use the thermostat housing for a 79 f250 2wd with 460 it fits really well with the large cap distributor. Fits better than the 351m or 400 housing often recommended.
