Dumb question.

I have a 64 292 y block I recently put a holly on. I'm trying to figure out what this think on my intake manifold is looks like a pcv but I'm kinda thinking it's what fed oil to my oil bath filter. Any help I should probably know this.

Well if it was a pcv then it would be confirmed by finding the valve inserted into a grommet in the valve cover with the rubber hose attached.

I'm sure Number Dummy could answer this as I don't think even a CA engine in 1964 had pcv. One thing for sure is one doesn't feed oil to their oil bath air cleaner.

Right I think I learned in automotive school that 67 was when pcv was introduced. I'm just not sure where to hook it up to.

According to ND back on 03-27-2015; the PCV system was introduced in 1961 and was mandatory on all new vehicles sold in CA.

Here is a discussion & pics of a '64 292 pcv system:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ght=PCV+system

Does that look similar to yours?

Not so with the 292.

I'm sure NumberDummy could answer this as I don't think even a CA engine in 1964 had pcv.

Wrong!
PCV introduced in 1961 .. it was mandatory in all sold new in CA vehicles, may have been mandated in some other states as well. By 1966, all states mandated PCV

1961/64 292's with PCV do not have the valve located in the valve cover. First year for this setup was 1965 352.

BarnieTrk: This is...at least...the 20th time I've posted this same 1961/64 292 PCV info over the past 8+ years.

Upper pic (from 1964/72 catalog): With PCV, the 6A665 adapter takes the place of the road draft tube, 1961/63 is the same. The valve is basic part number 6A666.

Hi Fellas,

Probably also considered by some as a Dumb Question --

When I look at NDs posted illustration above (post#8), would someone please explain the functional description of part# 6A665?

I'm guessing it is a small canister containing an oil coalescer utilizing a mesh screen-type baffle inside. Would that be a correct description?

Secondly, part# 6A666, would that be a standard PCV check valve device, correct?

Thanks in advance for any and all explanations,

BarnieTrk

I don't have and exact match installed there, but the device on mine is an empty shell that vents the crankcase. (I purchased and installed that brass fitting myself--my engine came with the vent plugged.)

I don't recall hearing about anyone who still has that original part. I'm guessing most were tossed years ago.

No.

No, there are myriad different smog (PCV) valves: 1961/64 292 trucks: C1TZ-6A666-A (Motorcraft EV-1). 1961/63 car 292's use a different valve: C1AZ-6A666-A
The road draft tubes used on 1954/59 Y blocks contain a meshed filter screen (B2TZ-6A631-A). See upper pic below from 1957/63 catalog...notice the lower pic shows the 1961/63 PCV pics.

The 6A665 adapter that takes the place of the 1961/64 292 road draft tube has nothing inside it, neither do the road draft tubes after 1959.
