Where to have my HPOP rebuilt?

I have a IPR? no start/cut off thread going on here. I'm just wondering, If I become convinced my HPOP is defective where do I send out to rebuild? I have seen the name "Joey" but with dial up I'm having a time finding who that is.

This is your guy. I have yet to mess with my hpop but seems to be the popular choice around here.

Joey is the man. I love my t-500. I got mine before it was officially the t500 and it has served flawlessly. I look forward to eventually getting bigger injectors and using it closer to its full potential

Are there different levels of HPOPs? If a stock 17* HPOP is just a little weak for stage 1 or 2 injectors, is there something between it and a full blown HPOP that will support stage 3?

Doesn't make sense to power a pump that can power injectors much bigger than ever planned. Or, does a big daddy pump take as much HP to turn for the same output of PSI as a smaller pump?

Don't skim on the pump! My stock setup benefitted much from it.now its half the pump I NEED! Stage 3...with a code or hybrids? CC size..nozzle? ALL important variables...

I've heard both of those points before, thanks for reinforcing it.

Does a 'big' pump take as much horsepower to turn as a stock pump for the same basic oil pressure?

I have never read any issues with that. IMO the gain in throttle response is a net gain over any possible negative . The IPR regulates the pressure. That level is predetermined but a modded pump will achieve pressure better and hold more for longer in my head anyway.

Aaron, you are right on the money. The IPR will just bypass more oil to keep the pressure down. Negligible increase in power to drive the pump is easily overcome by the increase in power produced. The only issue would be if you get dual pumps with a single IPR... sometimes the single IPR can't dump the oil fast enough to keep the pressure down. You won't have that problem with a single pump.

I am very picky about using words like "Rebuild", when in fact the item is just "Overhauled."
Without having hard facts from any of the vendors, I have to assume based on price (since their prices go way up if they start with Bosch Rebuilt pumps) that pumps like the Adrenaline and T500 are "Overhauled" pumps that are modified (change swash plate angle, and I am sure some other trade secrets as well) to move more oil. There is nothing at all wrong with this as the parts are thoroughly inspected and pass strict parameters and flow testing. We do the same thing with injectors, I just make sure the customer knows the difference about what is and what is not replaced.

However, it is misleading to say a pump is rebuilt if they do not replace all of the major wear parts inside. Pumps like the Honey Badger maintain a 17° swash plate and have larger pistons to increase oil flow hence "new" wear parts. I am not here to try and sell the HB, I don't sell any pumps except stock Bosch Rebuilt pumps, the only true Rebuilt pumps I know of that re-use the housing and main shaft and everything else gets replaced. I am just trying to clear up the miss-use of the word "Rebuilt" that I feel gets throw around much too often.

Also, you certainly don't want a pump larger than what your demand is, though you can plan ahead a bit if you will be upgrading injectors soon. Running a big pump with low demand (small injectors) will just break the oil down faster requiring more frequent oil changes. From my personal experience, a stock 17° HPOP (or T500) will support any injector from Stock to Stage-3 Hybrids, with good custom tuning, just fine. With the only exception being the AB/AD Split Shots which like more oil like the HB or Adrenaline.

Hope this helps.

Good point, Jim. I did not mention extra oil wear.
