Bench testing transfer case switch motor?

OK ...97 f150 4x4 4.6.. transfer case shifted into 4L and it wouldn't disengage. ..l tried everything (unhook battery, jack truck up, etc etc) finally I just removed the switch motor from the TC and manually turned switch to 4L. Before I go out and buy a new switch motor I'd love to bench test mine to see if I can get it to do anything . .. any and all advice would be greatly appreciated .

I had a 98 f150 that would stick in 4L. what I did was step on the gas hard to spin the tires, it would bind and come out then........its not really supposed to be in 4WD on dry pavement......
