Stars and Stripes Forever - The July thread
Figured I better fire up a new month of gabbin'.
God Bless America and all the patriots within.
Gonna have a quiet 4th this year.
I'm really trying to get my cars going so no trips.
And of course we just had a new grandson so Nancy is more than happy to hang around.

4th of July we always head to my Grandma and Grandpa's house in Artesia. They can do fireworks in the city and they live close enough to Cerritos park to see those big fireworks from their front lawn. Always a nice pool party with family/friends, food and drinks.
Planning on a trip out to Bickel Camp in Randsburg next weekend. Never been there, but goin with some people that frequent that place often. Just kind of getting stuff ready cuz I know it'll be hot.
Also looking into a CB radio for the X any suggestions? Being into offroading I've just started looking at some PCI Radio set ups or Rugged Radios kits.
And still looking for a job.

Hah
That's funny.
I hate to say it but I didn't catch it.
I thought it was a new name for something. Not just plain ole off roading.

one suggestion though! look into amateur radio, get more power and more frequency's, you do have to take a 35 question test, but there all multi choice and rather easy. the license is good for 10 years and free to renew.
amateur radio is another hobby im into, but i dont spend enough time enjoying
as far as the 4th goes, not sure whats going on.... but what ever it is, it will include beer all them fireworks stands in the palmdale lancaster area are tempting

Steph, you should have a great time out around Bickel Camp. It is very close to Burro Schmidts tunnel, an old pumice mine, and not far at all from Jawbone Canyon and Red Rock Canyon.
I was out there last year and posted a bunch of pics, here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...-no-story.html
I didn't narrate anything, but you will know the tunnel when you see it, and Bickels Camp has a sign. The camp was closed for the day, so I didn't get to go inside the compound. Looked like an interesting place to wander around.
We're going to go up to Big Bear and run Clarks Grade in my old Jeep. My daughter and SIL are going along in his Tacoma 4WD. She wanted to get in one last offloading trip before the baby comes in November. Just a day trip for us. Have to be home before all the fireworks mayhem starts.

Waiting for my brother to finish his Jeep before we go back out there (the tunnel).
Great place to kick around.
I'm reminded of when I was a kid and owned another (my first) '74 short bed.
Went across the road through Jawbone and up to Kennedy meadows.
Really fun switchback road.
Got the truck stuck in the snow and had to leave it over night. Dug it out the next day. Aha those were the days.
