Head gasket replacement
I'm changing out the head gaskets on my 95 4.0L pushrod engine and I need to take the upper intake off. In order to do that I need to remove the EGR valve and EGR tube that goes into the upper intake. The problem I face is that the EGR tube is on the same stud as the dipstick tube for the engine oil. I don't know how to remove the dipstick tube. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Thanks

It's been 15 years since I had the heads off a 4.0, but from what I remember, there's just the one bolt/nut for the dipstick bracket and then the dipstick tube slides out. This was on my Aerostar and there was no EGR but I think the same stud was used for the dispstick bracket.
When I did the intake on my 98 Explorer, I just unbolted the EGR valve from the EGR tube (the tube that goes up to the manifold - two bolts), took the nut off the stud that went on the dipstick bracket, rotated the EGR tube nut (at the exhaust manifold) and tube, with EGR valve still attached, counterclockwise a little bit and I was able to get the upper intake off with the EGR tube attached to the intake manifold. I left the dipstick in place. I don't recall if you will have clearance issues removing the head with the dipstick still in place but you should be able to rotate or wiggle it out of the way.
