Let me know how it goes and let me know if you think it's worth the $1200 price tag a local shop quoted me. I only got one quote so who knows, there might be someone out there with a lesser quote.

I know a man's gotta make a living as I do not work for free. The rebuild kit is int the $100 ball park and it takes 12 hrs that's in the $100 hr range. About typical I guess but that's around where I start to figure I could just pay myself.
Never done one myself. But I wouldn't be afraid too. Pick up on a YouTube video or two and/or the above mentioned manuals. Read through it 1st to see what special tools are required. Wash your hands and go after it.
I stand by my sig.

C4 Transmission Rebuild

I had the C4 in my galaxie partially apart for cleaning. (It got filled with water...) it looked pretty simple as far as a tranny goes. Much more so than my AOD did. But I never really got into the hard parts.

Well you guys are all fancy with your DVD players and stuff lol. I rebuilt mine without any DVD or books. And it worked better than it did before. Not right, but better than before hahaha. Either way, I'm dropping the valve body tomorrow to see if I got those ***** in the right place. Anybody know where they go? The diagram I got wasn't a ford diagram, and mine only had two in it when I took it apart but the diagram called for three...dunno if 3 is right or not...

Well I think I found my problem. The first time I rebuilt it I put the wrong gasket in between valve body halves. Looks like a lot of pressure built up too, because there's a little tearing of the gasket in a few spots. Either way, I put the right gasket, 2 *****, clean valves back in it. Put it back in truck tomorrow. Hopefully the wrong gasket stopping fluid flow through the VB was my problem.

There is extreme pressure in the valve body. Sometimes close to 400psi I think

There's a gasket and separator plate between the upper and lower halves of the valve body.

I wonder if that's why my C6 shifts slow into drive but not reverse. I had the valve body off one time to put in a new shift shaft seal and then I put the valve body right back on. Wonder if I shoulda put a new gasket in there. I didn't even notice one.

Doesn't the master kit come with directions for overhauling the trans?
Like what ya would get with a model airplane kit? Way back in the day
when Fram was still American I used a lot of there Master kits. Everything
was there and the directions where spot on. Like it told you to soak the
clutch disks over night in ATF and stuff like that. It made the overhaul
easy and fun. I prolly have done 200 Ford Dodge and GM trannys
from the 60's, 70's, and 80's with never a problem with any of them.
We didn't have internet or DVD's back then and what came with the
kit was all we needed. Just sayin
