How much have you hauled?

How much have you hauled?
In the bed, not with a trailer...
Got an order of Cedar 1x6x8 fence pickets the other night at Menards. 240 of them to be exact.
It was in a all wrapped up in a 4x8 shipping bundle. When I saw it there at the yard, I figured, "Why not?"
So I dropped the tailgate and we slid it into the bed of my 09 SuperCrew.
After the fork truck drove away, my conscience (and my wife) were telling me we should make a second trip.
The truck was sagging pretty bad and the tires were screaming, "Help me!"
So, I did what any guy would do and put it in D and head on down the road.
The truck drove like it was on eggshells and my nerves weren't much better. 20 miles later, I was relieved.

My last truck had an 8 foot bed (I won't mention the brand) and it did a much better job hauling.
The SCrew, with the bed down, 75% of the weight was behind the rear axle.
You would've thought I was going to pop a wheelie.
I wasn't down to the bump stops, but I guarantee I was way overloaded.

I did put 20 80# bags of concrete (an additional load of ~~ 1600 lbs) in my 2008 Tacoma. Hauled the concrete 20 miles on the highway, then 1 mile off-road. Seemed like a lot smoother ride than "normal". This was in addition to the 900 lbs already in the truck. So I guess that made me 2400 lb load.
It did have overload springs installed.

This past winter I had 2800lbs of wood pellets in my 2005 Super crew 5.5' bed. Had them stacked front to back all the way to the top of the cap. Had a set of Firestone air bags in the rear. Had 60lbs of air in them and put 60lbs in my E rated Michelins.
It didn't sag at all in the rear. Drove a little mushy and I was only going 10 miles. Doubt I would have tried it without the bags.

I've never loaded my truck that heavy. I have the standard load springs. As it turns out, they didn't seem to be the weak link. The Cooper AT3's were.
My last truck, I put overload springs on and had LR E tires. I hauled, 2600 lbs of concrete and towed a concrete mixer home with it. It did quite well for a truck with a Billy Goat badge. The 8 ft bed helped me distribute the weight better than the 5.75 does.
If I didn't have to strap kiddie seats in, I'd still be driving a truck with a long bed.

In the bed, the heaviest that I can think of was a pallet of tile. I just looked the specific tile up and it weigh 62lbs a box / standard pallet is 36 boxes. so it was at least 2200lbs, it was however many cases the tile setter needed of that particular tile, there might have been more than 36 cases on there. I have a set of firestone ride rites on my truck so i wasn't worried about the load but my poor little stock pirelli's were looking a bit overmatched. i had them pumped up close to max psi which was only 44lbs and they were still looking squishy. I'm sure I've had exceeded that payload a few times between what I put in the bed plus the tongue weight of whatever was on the trailer but I think that pallet of tile is the most I've hauled exclusively in the bed.
