Turn Signals in 50 F1

Trying to work through incorpating an 1157 bulb into the front lamp holders to enable a dual filament bulb for turn signals.
Anyone with experience modifying the housing to recieve an 1157 bulb?

Here's one way: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...hn-morton.html

Usually you can just take a dual-filament socket (with the slots for the 1157 indexed tabs) out of some other light and slide it right in place of the original, and solder it in place.

The process is one of the easiest - just remove the original sockets (push them out the back of the housing) and replace with prewired sockets available from most any auto parts store. The 48-50 parking light housings are very accommodating.

Reading my mind. I want to do the same thing. I bought a couple of taillight sockets from D.C. to do that. Figured I'd have to solder them in.

I have been thinking of doing the same with mine. Are you guys running the turn signals on the original 6 volt? What did you do in the back?

I put double filament bulbs in my park lights to use as turn signals and LED lights in the back. It's a 6 volt system.

What would have been the original brand of turn signal housing that mounts on the steering column? Is there a yellow LED option for the front?

I believe SignalStat was the original.

You can get different colored LEDs, white and red for certain. I'm not sure about amber. I just used amber lenses.

But depending on what you have in the circuit, you might have to use an LED flasher. I don't need one because I have a combination of LEDs and filament bulbs. The standard flasher requires resistance from the filament bulbs to work properly. LEDs don't provide that resistance.

I have upgraded to 12. I eliminated the toggle switched for the dash lights and added a toggle for my turn signals. I'm going with 1157a bulbs in front and will look for two original tail light housings for the rear. Maybe in the future I will add h4 headlights and LEDs.

There was a device offered awhile back that just flashed your parking lights. No need to upgrade bulbs, just install a brighter bulb. It was a complete kit. I wish I could find that again.

LS-6538 sockets from Napa are about .030 smaller than the original. Close enough though, I bent the flange in and TIG welded the new sockets into the F1 housings.

If you're working on the fronts, I couldn't fit an 1157 bulb inside of the stock parking light lenses. I had to use a smaller bulb with a standard base. I ended up buying the amber small size bulbs from a motorcycle website.
