How much oil does a 69 f100 with a 360 use?

I have a 1969 f100 with a 360 v8. And I believe my dipstick isn't the right size. How much oil does it take? I put 6 quarts in already..

Okay thank you. And is it okay if I used 10w40 and then the last quart 10w30?

The 4wd's had 6 qt pans with rear sump. I've seen where some guys said a 2wd 360 use 6 qts but, I never saw a 2wd 360-390 one that did use the 6 qts.
'
Although a 428 with a HP with a windage tray used 6 qts. in those HP engine.

I don't see any 6qt pans for fe's only 5qts.427 nascaer engine ran 10qt pans
On the later side oilers from what, I've read.

I've also installed the 428 windage tray an am using 6 qts in my 390 5qt pan.

The point is with to much oil will slop up onto the crank that may cause foaming of the oil..

I have always used 5 qts. at change for most of 50 years now. Doubt you will hurt anything adding the 6th. You can use store brand 10W30 for all the oil not just the last qt. as it is easier to find most times. Adding a qt after 1000 miles isn't out of realm either. Them ol bulldogs are weepers, so don't sweat it if it does.

One quart of 10W30 mixed with five quarts of 10W40 gives you six quarts of 10W30.8 or thereabouts.
You will be just fine.

Make my last "...10W38 or thereabouts."
That's what happens when you mix math with 10W30, 10W40 and cheap white wine.

Again, the manuals I have state six quarts inclusive of an oil filter.

I've read that FEs are under-oiled anyways... especially at higher RPMs and that's why Ford came up with the center oiler and side oiler... to feed the mains with the necessary lube.

By my count of quartage.....One in the pan, one to feed each head, two in the mains, and one in the filter.

I have come across 360-390 with two different dip stick tube lengths as well as the stick that was about 3/4 of a qt differences so this could throw ya off.

And many manuals have errors in them an not the golden truth as one may believes they are.

Well, I'll dig up the 70's OEM owner's manual later to see what is says.... officially.

My hand book ford manual shows 5qts for the 300,360,390
add 1 qt when changing filter= 6qts
240 4wd 5qts, 240 2wd 4qts.

So may be now this can be put to rest, well until newbies come here wondering the same..

So the moral of this story is read the glove box hand book manual more often if your old like me to keep it refreshed in you mine.

This confusion may all stem from where the oil shows on the dip sticks.

As mine shows about a 2/3rd of qt. of be over full with 6qts in it.

But my stick is the dip stick that came with the engine mirror 105 block out of PnP.

Oh well, I did remark the full level by notching the dip stick sides after adding 6qts this will stop the guessing about it out .
