Turbo bark question
Hey Fellas,
Just bought a 2005 F-350 and had it completely gone thru. OEM gaskets with ARP studs, OEM oil cooler, upgraded dummy plugs, stand pipes, turbo feed line and drain tube, blue spring, banjo bolts... The whole 9 yards. I have an SCT tuner with tunes from Gearhead and love the difference it gives the truck over the stock tune! My problem I'm having with the turbo bark is that it only seems to do it on the 8K tow tune. Any slight to moderate backing off of the pedal and it will bark 2-3 times at me. If I run the stock tune or SRL+ I don't seem to get it at all unless I cram the pedal for a few seconds then let out abruptly, which I would expect it too then. I talked to the guys at Gearhead today and they pointed to a possible EBP sensor going bad. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks guys, from what I've read I thought if the unison ring in the turbo is getting rusty, dirty, or pitted it can stick or react slowly causing the Turbo back pressure to be higher than it would be otherwise when sudden or in extreme cases minor throttle changes. I was initially thinking my unison ring was the problem but the fact that it only does it in tow tune is a little odd. I don't think it's so much a problem with the tune but maybe showing the problem more bc of how that tune is ran compared to the others. I would think that for max boost and HP the SRL+ tune would probably not be worried about EBP readings, but in a tow friendly tune like the 8K it would become much more important to keep EGT's down. That is why I thought the tune was maybe making a possible EBP sensor problem more apparent by giving more turbo farting?

Yup, they may be higher. You will not read anything over 28psi with the srl tunes. The map sensor curve is changed so it becomes inaccurate up high. You will see the most boost in the highway with the converter locked up and gently rolling into the throttle. I've seen 34psi

That could cause it as well. Try cleaning the sensor. A brand new turbo can fart in the right circumstances
