Axle and spring questions

I have a 88 BII. It has saggy rear springs. My first question is what axle is under it? Is it the 7.5, or a 8.8? If not a 8.8 will a 8.8 from a explorer or ranger fit without too much work? I want to use this for some light towing. that why I ask. Also will explorer rear springs work underneath my BII? I figure they are stiffer. Thanks for answers and ideas.

If you have the stock axle under your BII it is a 7.5 and should be fine for light towing. The Explorer and Ranger 8.8 axles would require re-location of the spring location pads. You would need to vut the old pads off and weld new ones on at the proper location for spring width and pinion angle.

They used to make add a leafs for the BII. That's what I would do. You would need to install the new leaf in your current spring pack You might also consider a bolt on over load spring if your tools/shop skills are limited.
