IF you are only putting 6K a year on your truck I would tell you to stick with the mobile 1. AMSOIL benefits are the extended drain intervals by far. You could look into a additive from Lucas too. Buy a good quality filter (IMO they outweigh oil) and keep to your regular oil changes.

As others said they don't like their marketing. They are really no different than say AVON when it comes to MLM. I don't like it when dealers get on the forums and flat out tell you that you are killing your vehicle if you aren't using their product. I quit selling it because I got busy doing other things. My yard maintenance business started to take off so I quit selling it. I still use it in the tcase, front and rear diffs as well as the tranny in my 99 F250. I also like their small engine oil and their 2 cycle oil. My handheld equipment has never ever fowled a plug or anything running BP 93 octane and saber professional 2 stoke oil. -Jason

Hey Josh, AMSOIL never sends their dealers "out" to do that. They are independent contractors all to themselves. They usually take it upon themselves to try and get business by asserting themselves into a conversation and then trying to get them to call on them to make the sale. When I was a dealer I became the sole AMSOIL vender on a forum I belonged to. That gave me the right to advertise on my signature as well as answer questions without getting deleted when they arose, and I paid for that right. It also got the mods like you to delete all posts from non advertising venders to protect my business. All of this is the number one reason I said in my first sentence in my first post that I was a former dealer so you could take what I had to say with a grain of salt and also know that I do have good knowledge of the product and the best way it should be used. -Jason

AM-SOIL or whatever modern oil has identical or better API ratings than just about any off the shelf oil, just like others mentioned. What differentiates AM-SOIL sales verses excellent retail brands like Mobil1, are the 'independent' dealers, aka pyramid scheme similar to Amway. You purchase products from an 'independent dealer', then they try to rope you into becoming a dealer too. Wash, rinse, repeat. Want an excellent oil with no goofy strings attached? Stick with off the shelf oil.

Personally I've used Amsoil and have not seen ANY of their advertised claims.

There are many very highly rated products out there and some people say that even the cheap stuff is more than enough for most people's application.

I stopped using Amsoil oil after a while of owning my 5.9 cummins because I never saw benefits to justify the extra price and because they wanted to charge me for a sticker to show my brand loyalty.

I switched to an oil with a big Cummins certified logo I bought at the local dealer. Coincidentally when I asked about stickers they handed me a 8.5" x 11" sheet with various styles and sizes.

Their oil filters are VERY highly spoken of though...more so than their oil

I don't know much about diesel oils; but I have a fair knowledge of motorcycle oils. Various brands, which are all good oils, differ in their additive packages. Some contain more and better anti-wear compounds. I do know that automotive oils reduced their anti-wear compounds. One big name brand also reduced the anti-wear compounds in their synthetic motorcycle oil. I try to run oils with the best additive packages in my motorcycles.

Amsoil makes a great product but it's expensive. For that reason I wouldn't use it. I have been running Moboil1 in my cars and it's outstanding and I can get it anywhere. I use motorcraft in my 2012 Taurus SHO and same with my GT500. Yes I have more cars than that. My cirrus has 275,000 miles on it and I drive it in commute traffic and still no oil leaks. Also why use a synthetic blend? I could never figure any advantage to using that. Also its a blend and not 50/50 blend. I go about 6 to 7,000 miles between changes or every year which ever comes first.I change it just before winter so when the car sits than it has fresh oil in it not the dirty stuff.
