Came out from work tonight to go home and...

Someone had put a fist sized dent in the rear fender on my truck. Right below the gas door.

Lucky for me, they weren't smart enough to get back in their car and move it. They were still parked there.

Eye-balling the dent, and their door, I figured I had my man. So, back in to work to get the security guard, who also took pics, and called the police. Our HR found the guy still working inside, and had him come out. I made him open his door and touch it to my dent, in front of the cop, it was a perfect match.

Since it was on private property (work parking lot), the cop said it would be a civil matter (I knew that anyway), but he stayed long enough to make sure the guy cooperated, and handed over his insurance info. At least he did have insurance, which was my main worry. Already filed the claim through their 800 number and have a claim number. Now I just have to go through the process...

This was not a terrific day for me, but in the large scale of things, could always be worse. But this is my "first" dent in my now nearly 3 year old truck. Sigh. I know these things happen, but I do try to take care of my vehicles.

My truck kept popping up with dents every so often so i got tired of it and built a wooden flat bed, mine is an 01 with over 400k on the ticker though.

Glad to hear its working out though. Good luck bud.

lucky on that one. Usually you take it in the shorts.

Be sure the insurance gives you a rental. And not a compact.

Good detective work! It's a real shame, as it looks like you really take good care of your truck! Good luck with the repair!

Glad that it should be taken care of. I always park away from everyone else in part because of the possibility of dents. I also park away from cart corrals in grocery store lots.

Glad you caught the person responsible and hope it works out. I can't believe someone would open their door that hard to cause that dent! Or is Ford using very think sheet metal these days???

I'm just waiting for this day to happen. And I doubt I'll be as fortunate as you were.

But people today have ZERO respect for other people's property hell even respect for themselves it seems.... At least the guy was dumb enough to actually stay and not leave and more a couple spots away from the "accident". Sucks your gonna have body work but he's insurance will fix it instead of you having to spend the money too
