Hi all, I just bought a 2005 F350 dually 6.0. I love the truck. One owner 86,000 mile cream puff. Runs great but after reading everything around here I'm totally confused on what to do to bulletproof it. I'm not looking to hot rod it just make it not die. I know I need to flush it and replace the coolant. I'm confused on the EGR. What is the best way?
So my thinking is this, EGR delete, 4 inch exhaust eliminating cat, tune, and coolant flush.

EGR delete depends on where you live for emissions testing. If you flush with chemicals, plan to do an oil cooler right after. Blue spring update, update the STC, stand pipes and dummy plugs. Straight pipe is good for lower EGTs. ARP head studs if your going to rip into it.
First thing is get a gauge of some type to read live data to see where your at for coolant/oil temps.
Why did he sell it?

A digital gauge that will read everything thru OBDII PORT
they have some ok cheap ones I use a scangaugeII
once you can see what the PCM is seeing then you can check your oil cooler and even the HPO and Ficm battery alternators these guys will help you with the numbers

If you have an Android phone, buy Torque Pro from the APP store ($5) and then get an ELM327 adapter to read OBDII data or buy a Scan Gauge II and program the PIDs to read the live data. Hooks to the OBDII port.
STC fitting is for HPO system, but if you have no issues (get one of those listed above) then enjoy your truck...
Looks very nice!

so you said it runs fine right now? having been in your position two years ago, i wouldn't do a thing until you get some gauges and see some basic numbers. if those looks within norms i wouldn't do a thing outside of an oil change, fuel filters change and a coolant flush. if it ain't broke, why fix it?? watch those numbers and just know you MAY need to do some of what you mentioned in the future. mine is an '06 DRW, I haul a 5000# camper and 4000# worth of boat and trailer behind it and everything is dead stock and knock on wood, numbers all still look good.

Nice looking truck.
Try not to get all worked up over what you read. If you aren't experiencing any problems, just enjoy the ride.
Obtain a SGII, refer to your base numbers and check out the 6.0 tech files where you will find parameters of temps and pressures you can print out.
(I keep a copy in the truck.)
If something seems different, don't ignore it.

Nice looking truck! And Welcome to FTE!
10,000 miles since 09 "might" bring in some turbo issues. Thats a lot of sitting. Turbos do not like to sit. (Might want to listen to the turbo when Idling to see if it has the program that works the vanes in the turbo to keep them working, you will hear the sound change)
Stop by Ford and pick up an oasis report on the vehicle. It will show you what warranty work was done to it.

if it were mine, I would not do a coolant flush. I would dump it and fill until it comes out clean, drive until up to temp for each fill. then dump and fill with distilled water twice then drain 2.5 gallon of water and refill with cat ec1 coolant. make sure to pull the block drains also. add a coolant filter kit and install a blue spring kit. oem fuel and oil filters only. Stc fitting is not a bad idea because you have zero indication anything is wrong until it comes apart, then when it comes apart it can break the rear engine cover. 1st thing though as stated get a obd2 reader and check eot ect temp difference, ficm voltage at cold start, battery voltage right after cold start and 1 after 5 minutes of running. the eot ect split is only valid after the following, bring truck up to operating temp (185+f), drive 60 to 65 mph, unloaded on flat ground for 15 miles, then check your ect and eot. should be less than 15 degrees. it is common to have failing thermostats on these trucks sticking open lowering the running temp, replace thermostat if engine can not reach 185 f. check the ect eot split before you change the coolant. also make sure you have the short oem oil filter cap not the tall wix cap.

Steve,
If you decide on the scan gauge II, buy at Advance Auto. Use TRT30 for a coupon code saving $50, order the thing on line and then select "pick-up in store" and then go get it. You will need to program the X-gauges, can do that by going the there website and/or watching a you tube video on how to do it.
Good luck
