I have 3 IDI vans.

85 E350 extended full panel van, 6.9 C6, 4.11
87 E350 26ft Motorhome, 6.9 C6, 3.54
And my daily driver, '91 E250 XLT Club Wagon 12 passenger van, 7.3, E4OD 3.54

I also have a 1977 E100 ******* wagon, but it's a straight 6, 3 speed on the column van.

John is the luckiest IDI van guy here. I can't remember exactly, but he got that third IDI van for a hundred bucks.

If I could find a van kit on their site I sure would take a look, but I cant.

....and 30 secs later I do.

No telling how many hands the van has been in. I know at one time it was a church bus/van. Thanks for the welcome. Later.

Better late than never eh?

It's a '92 7.3 idi. It's going in for a re-gear and lockers this coming week because 37's with the 4.10 gears gives new meaning to sluggish. Even so, I'm sure a turbo could bring some joy to the table. That will be next.

I have a 1990 coachmen E250 van camper. When I bought it had a 5.8 gas engine in it and 2wd. I made it into a 4X4 and then the motor let go.I Wonder how that happen? Then I installed a Promar rebuilt 7.3 Diesel in it rebuilt the diesel E4OD trans and installed the 4x4 rear shaft in the trans. In oct. I installed a new Hypermax turbo setup in it and next will be a Baumann Quick 4 Trans controller. That will be it for this yr

I purchased an 84 E350 Newmar London Aire RV with a blown motor this summer and I purchased an 86 F350 with 30K on the motor. Swapped the blown motor out (what a Pain!) and have put about 6-700 miles on it so far. Getting about 12-13MPG with an 11-12K pound 27' RV. (Is that good?) It has a few problems to fix but its a hell of a deal so far! What kind of Towing power do these have? Would I be able to pull a 2000 Ranger with it??

OH! As a newer Van owner that has Never seen the air snorkle in place... HTF do you get it to the front grill past that darn Alternator without melting it on the exhaust manifold?!?!? Is it just easier to mod it? I was thinking a Hood Scoop that matches upto an intake tube would work nicely, like the Subaru WRX has.

How Difficult/Expensive is it to swap out the rear gears?? I have 4:10 gears and I'd like to drop it down to the 3:54 (or whatever) gearing. Like IDIJohn has in his

Updated look. It's in (finally) for the lockers and gears, but here's how it looks. Dumped those god-awful ugly mirrors and forced some later model superduty mirrors into service. Much more betterer lookin. Also did something with the plain jane red stripe. Not a huge change, and only temporary, but I think it looks at least a bit better.

That's pretty wild and unique.
Make sure you aim the headlights on that squatter!
(Hint: DOWN, a lot!!)

Not difficult at all since I paid someone to do it. Pricing around here is parts + $400-$500 labor per axle. I'm sure that will differ depending on where you live. Parts should be relatively consistent since it's an Internet world these days and everybody has to compete with it.

If I understood your post correctly your rig is in the neighborhood of 12k. I really don't know that I'd want to go down to 3.54 gearing. Mine is about 10.5k with 37/12.5s on it. I put 4.88s in there to bring it back close to what it was with factory tires/gears, and it's still just a bit sluggish compared to what I'm used to driving. I plan to make up the shortfall with a turbo, but if I weren't I might have gone a bit deeper with the gears.

My 79 was turning 35x13.50s with 3.55s, i didnt think it was bad at all. Towed with it alot, didnt like more than about 5k tied onto it while it was NA. Still though, tow a car and trailer anywhere in OD. 37s with 4.11 would be about perfect for me.

Wolf, look around a wrecking yard, should be able to get the dually rear for <$200. Im sure most will be 4.11, but theres gotta be a few 3.55
