If I had the less spline box personally I would look for a new pitman arm along with the newer 36 spline box. I believe the tie rod end of both pitman arms are the same?
I tend to agree on the reviews. But, when you have that doubt and the only review plays to it ...

I'm hoping I have the 36 and it's a non-decision there. But, a new pitman arm definitely removes the PITA factor of removing the pitman arm

I feel this is proper and I sincerely appreciate them for stepping up.
Wow, that is awesome.
For what it's worth, the flat rate boxes from the post office (UPS and USPS look so much alike many folks don't actually know which someone is saying) is really great for heavy stuff!!

I'm a happy Redhead customer but not happy this was even an issue. It got fixed because you .....steered them in the right direction..

You travel with a loose box? Just saying that sounds dangerous. However a tight box at this point might be hard to handle compared to what you are used to. You might want to work your way up to the tight box so it won't be such a shock to you when you are driving.

I put in a new ford steering box when I bought my Ex in 2006. It was great when I put it in. 40k miles later, it was toast (35 inch tires).

I put a redhead in to replace it. After 2 years and 12k miles, it got sloppy. At 3 years, and 20k miles, I have tightened it about about 5 times, and it is loose again. My mechanic showed me the shaft is moving back and forth.

I called redhead, and they were surprised the box went bad after only 20k miles. They offered to look at it if I sent it to them. But, how do I do that? I can't let the truck sit at the mechanic disabled while it ships.

So, I am debating whether to get a brand with a lifetime warranty local. Just not sure what to do. I have read horror stories on some of the reviews.

Here's what I found out today...

Got my 2000 (133K) "X" back in February of 15, I didn't realize it at the time, but the steering gearbox had already been replaced. When I got the "X" I made a full turn plus adjustment to tighten it up.... It help somewhat.

This past week, I just went through the steering, replaced 4 ball joints and all rod ends, all very needed. Great improvement, EXCEPT, I still had play..... I had been looking into the Red-Head with the group buy coming up to find out which box I would need and struggling with the decision to bite the bullet for the Red-Head. Low and behold while looking at the gearbox this afternoon, what do I see.... A Sticker... Pull the sticker off, I type 7556 Ford Excursion Gear Box into Google and up comes an Auto Zone gearbox with part number 7556. Other sticker information - Remanufactured date 11/15/2013 in Mexico. So in what 15 months it needed a full turn plus adjustment and I still have play....

Bullet bitten.... Ordering my Red-Head Wednesday through the group buy....

Thx for the update zapola, I've had good luck with the Red head after replacing all the other steering components a few years back. A pleasure to drive again.
