Shifter Slop

My 04 V10 4X4 with 130K mi. has a column auto shifter that has gotten sloppy. Going from park to drive, I usually have to nudge it into 2nd and then back to drive to get it to actually go into drive.
Dealer says I need a rebuild kit for the steering column and wants $700 to fix it.
Anyone done this themselves?

If u look up under the column there are two gold colored torx screws that keep the shifter cable in place, these come loose all the time on Fords and a simple thread lock and re tighten is all that's needed. If it's not that there are bushings for the shifter and they are probably bad and you can get them cheap
