A day without FTE is like a day without ---
Well we had to take our laptop in for repair a while back for a loose hinge and they said they would need to replace it as it was not worth fixing. It was only a year old. What a throw away society we live in, its sad. Anyway its nice to be back on the board.(my wife's tablet just didn't cut it for me) OK, Ok, the truck stuff I know. Up date on my 9" rebuild. After very close inspection of the R&P wear patterns and digesting all of the information contained in all the great posts from you all, I decided that a new gear set and ratio was the smartest way to go. Now I had to explain to my wonderful wife why I needed this added expense. Well she wasn't exactly thrilled but after I explained that every part minus axle shafts was already bought and ready to go she ,well she didn't say no so, LOL. OH and more good news in my garage, I pulled the baby moons off my rear wheel and lo and behold the rims are drilled for both 5 on 5 and 5 on 5 1/2, so I can reuse them, as long as the backspacing is compatible. Cool huh. Plus I just took delivery of a wrench for setting the pre-load, which adds to the press and a few other tools Ive needed for this job. IM having fun out here thanks to all of you. "EDIT" The ratio I chose is 3.25. And the wrench is US made with German parts, which is always a big plus not to see made in China (like the press).

By the time I'm done it will probably cost as much as a brand new one. But I don't learn anything that way, at least that's how I justify it. LOL And the tools, heck I got the press for less than it would have cost me for someone to do the pressing for me. Granted it's only a HF 12 ton, but for $100 after sale and coupons, you can't go wrong( for beginner home useanyway). Same for the seal installer set. But I was very happy to find the torque wrench was made in USA.

Good luck with the gear swap Jimmy, it's a little tedious at first but you appear to be a fastidious guy and should come through with flying colors. Now to that torque wrench, I am in the market for a new one and yours catches my interest. It appears to be rather short, is it an "inch pounds" or a "foot pounds" scale?
EDIT: found these CDI units on the interweb...looks like you got the one you need in inch pounds. I will be interested to hear about how it works for you.
