SCT Programmer for tuning? '05 Expy

Hi all!

I was looking around the interwebz, and found myself looking at an interesting thing:

SCT Performance - SCT SF3 Power Flash Ford Programmer Part Number: 3015

Does the 5.4 3v engine in the Expedition have any headroom for tuning? I see a couple of uses for that one;

1. Deactivate downstream O2 sensors after installing aftermarket exhaust and using test pipes instead of cats (there's no law requiring cats here.. )

2. Change the shift points on the transmission to make it firmer, with the goal to have it last longer. I'm told that if you make the shifts firmer, it has less wear on the transmission and would extend the life of it.

Then optional, perhaps bump the torque and hp up a little? Without modifying the engine, is there any headroom for tuning in these?

sct tuner

I have one for my 06 Navi. They were able to tweak the throttle reaction and timing for a little more hp. However on my 06 they were not able to tune my transmission because it's the 6 speed zf box. Also real handy to carry in the truck when a coil goes bad to read which cylinder it is.

Ok. Sounds interesting. Does this thing do anything that the Ford VCM cannot do? I have ordered a Ford VCM which should show up soon, it's a chinese version so it was pretty cheap but should still work fine for my own personal use..

Also, do you think it's realistic to pull 10% more power out of the engine with no modifications other than a new dual exhaust with a cat delete, or with high flow cats?

The exhaust mod will give you more sound but I wouldn't expect 10. And I'm not sure about the Ford widget.

I think I worded it a little incorrectly, I know that just straight up bolting on a new exhaust won't do much with power, but the question was supposed to be:

Will a new exhaust give any extra headroom in tuning the engine for more power with a tuner device such as the SCT one?

My best answer would be to contact the guys at five star tuning. That's where I bought mine. They have a reputation of tuning ford trucks.

Ok, I'll check with them and see what they recommend and what I can expect. Thanks!
