Hi, well, the negotiation on insurance pay out starts tomorrow, Trying to debate getting another 6.0 or look for something else like a 6.4. (of course hopefully one with most maintenance paperwork, no leaks etc). But, just wondering if we should focus on 6.0 again, love this forum and you all are so helpful, already have good working knowledge on 6.0, but would 6.4 be less problems long-term?, the thought of having to bulletproof again is a little daunting.

ABSOLUTELY NOT go with a 6.4!!! You think 6.0s are expensive to repair, you haven't seen anything yet until you see the repair costs of a 6.4. Between crankcases that like to fill themselves up with fuel due to internal high pressure fuel system leaks and/or excessive regens not to mention prematurely wearing rocker arm tips, to cylinders #2 and #8 hydrolocking due to failing horizontal EGR coolers, my vote is to steer clear of a 6.4. If you want to go to something newer, the 6.7 is hands down way better than the 6.4 by a long shot. Oh, that's not to mention single digit fuel economy as well on the 6.4s that several owners complain of.

I'd buy another. Since I know a bit more I'd even be willing to buy one that needs some motor work and get a better deal.

My brother-in-law's brother had a 6.4 to tow his bit boat.. about 2 months.. He was beside himself with the MPG of the 6.4 (when NOT towing the boat) so he ditched it really fast.

If you can't swing a 6.7 (I think you'd want to avoid the 1st year 6.7 though) you should consider a '05-'07 6L - you'll get the coil springs on the 4x4

Sure why not if you can get cheap and then have all the known issues fixed before driving it and then may just maybe go for the gusto and install some upgrades like the BPD water pump, some better injectors, and a new HPOP. But it would need to be one hell of a deal to do all this would it not. What looking at $8-10K for all the above if not more? Then depending on what year you will need to apply new suspension and other parts maybe a trans overhaul, but then with about $20K involved you would have a good truck that is almost 8 years old and worth what to someone. I like my truck but if have to go to do stuff like this maybe either a small 1/2T diesel (ford is supposed to have soon) or even the dodge or titan but it would be a hard call to make in any case. But as noted stay away from new 1st/2d year models if ya can.

As noted the 6.4 is a power maker but has more $ problems than the 6.0 although these are cooling and fuel related from what I have read. All in all its a crap shoot and only you can make the best decision as you see it. My BIL uses his 6.0 hard and said he test drove a new ford but it didnt seem as powerful as his 6.0 with a programmer! Besides $60K+ is hard to swallow so maybe a complete 6.0 build could be cheaper??
