Factory-Style Courtesy lights in an 87-91

So ever wonder how you could go about adding under-dash courtesy lights to an 87-91 bricknose ford?

Here is my attempt.

black wire with blue tracer (or maybe vise versa) is in a brown plug behind the kick panel on the drivers side, you can either
1. cut wire, use unisulated butt crimp connector and marine heat shrink (my choice) and tap into power that way.
2. strip insulation off wire, solder it and use whatever means possible to insulate it,
3.Or use a T-tap which may sever the wire or let corrosion in.

I wrapped it up with electrical tape and used wire loom for the wire I ran to each light.

Same style lights as an 80-86 F-series and bronco, but these came out of an 82 continental.

These lights ground through the mounting brackets, so either mount it to a clean metal structure or run a ground wire.

I used existing holes underneath the dash.

That's pretty cool! Looks really good and like it had been there from the factory. I like it! Do you have any pics of the lights themselves?

These with the bracket bent at a 90 degree angle, like I found them, grab the connectors and as much wire as you can too, looks more professional.

PS, I did have to trim the corner off one of the brackets, but that was it for modifications.

Thanks for the pic of the lamp. So, did you just use one per side?

Yessir, lights it up good and even, don't need any more than 1 per side. I also have the newer SD 99+ dome lamp, so I can see pretty good inside at night.

Looks great and addresses a problem these trucks have. I did the same to mine but used a small led strip. I love being able to see when I open the door.

You know if I lit mine in red it'd look like N.O. hoo-er house in there...

Where did you get your switched power? Is there a existing wire in ours? I've been meaning to ask.

Its the power wire for the dome light, the harness runs behind the drivers side kick panel.

Tied into the door jam switch. It operates the way a factory light would, with the switch or when you open the door.

None of the 1987 - 1991 trucks have these lights as an option? Not even the Lariat models?

I have a 1985 Ford F150 Lariat that has these exact lights. They were a factory option.

never was an option on 87-96 trucks. 80-86 trucks had more factory options, underhood toolbox, reel light, and these among other things.
