Cowl Stamping On 1946/47 Trucks?

Trying to learn if the practice of stamping the cowl of 1947 and earlier trucks was the same or similar to that used on 1948 and later trucks. I know where VIN information was stamped, but not the build info. Did the plants stamp the build sequence and date, assembly plant, color, etc, into the upper cowl or elsewhere during these years? And is there a reference that decodes this similar to that compiled for the 1948 and later trucks? Thx. Stu

Stu, I'm not an expert, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. I think these trucks only got a Vin# that indicated model year, wheelbase, and chassis configuration. Nothing about color, build date, etc. My truck has the Vin stamped on the tranny, frame, and a tag on the glove box door. It also has a tag on the firewall listing various patent numbers.

Thanks. My Google search didn't yield anything before hand, so had to ask. Stu

There is talk that there are stampings. I believe there has been talk on Ford Barn about stampings. My '46 does have numbers stamped on the cowl which match what others have seen. It is speculated that the numbers might be a date code and plant. But so far it is just that, speculation.
