Coolant Cavitation Eating Front Cover

We have 2 - '08 F550's & 1 - '08 F450 with just over 100k on each. One had a small pin hole in the front cover, another one was just starting to eat away. Have not had to tear down the third one yet.

Ford is claiming the root cause is Improper system filling and bleeding which is believed to be the cause of air pockets in the system resulting in cavitation.

I still think it is poor coolant maintenance and not check checking the coolant for proper nitrate levels and fluid levels, and possibly the high GPM water pump the 6.4 has, but i really don't have anything solid to prove anything.

Are you running the cummins blue coolant?

We bought them all used. Switched to the blue coolant. Now we are going to change coolant every year. The front cover is around $1,000 plus tearing the front off the truck.

Did you get the updated front cover for them as well?

Proper maintance will go along way at the prevention of this.

Use the airlift tool to ensure you purge the coolant system properly.

Since you have more than one truck it will pay for itself.
