Soundscreen acoustic windshield from Carlite

That's the first I've heard of this. What's the price point above a normal Carlite window? Can you get it where it still says Super Duty on the top?

How many here have them? What kind of difference does it really make?

I doubt anyone down here in the 7.3L forum has them. You'll have to go upstairs a few flights to the 6.7L forum and ask up there. 2014 and up.

The price was about $100 more than the normal windshield for my Ford SUV.

Kind of hard to ask those guys if the windshield makes a difference since the entire truck and engine is already much quieter than our old trucks.

Was hoping someone with one of these generation trucks had made the switch.

What kind of difference did it make on your SUV if you went from without to with the acoustic glass?

Huge. The 2008 had a presumably quieter V6 engine, but that 2008 was a heck of lot louder INSIDE than the 2011 is that not only has the presumably louder higher revving 4 cylinder engine, it has a hole in the roof to boot (glass moon roof). The body styles are exactly the same inside and out... 2008 was the first year of that generation, and 2011 was the last.

The only difference is our newer 2011 has a four cylinder instead of the "smoother" six, a moonroof. and the then newly introduced acoustic windshield called a Sound Screen. The new vehicle was much quieter inside. Much.

It's a little more expensive. Price varies depending on where you buy.

Yes

Came with my 15.

I've actually been in test cars with and without acoustic glass, and it's a surprising difference in noise.

However the 7.3L is loud, and you'll still have sound coming through other areas, so not really sure how much of a difference it will make on these trucks. Never tried it on a 7.3L before.

Thanks Curtis. This is the part I was most interested in. I have no doubt it works in the right application, just wonder if the 7.3 is the right application.

I also get the different places different prices, just was wondering if it was double the cost or just a bump in the price like the bump for getting it to say Super Duty up top.

It's a bump in price, shouldn't be double that of a non-acoustic w/logo. If so you're getting ripped off.

Is it double the price or more of the cheap Chinese glass? You betcha.

This is kinda what I'm thinking too......OK so we install quieter glass but we still have one of if not THE loudest light duty engine in the past 20 years siting in front of the firewall......which isn't exactly dampened. We all probably have 4" down tubes to at least 4" exhaust under our ****.....

It strikes me similar to someone putting on a very nice winter hat and forgetting their pants......big head is warm....little head still cold.....

Carlite is, or was, the Ford brand of glass. Not sure of Ford spun off Carlite or not. My 2000 Super Duty says Ford on the glass brand. How, sometime in 2002, the Super Duty glass brand started saying Carlite.

Looks like I'll be ordering another Sound Screen this week. A waterfowl flew up out of the water and collided with the windshield of the SUV. It was a very hard hit. Glass cracked from top to bottom in several veins.

Sigh.

I'm interested in this, if for no other reason than to quiet it down when it's raining. Rain hitting the windshield at highway speed seems (at least to me) to make more noise than then engine does.

I remember some time ago we were discussing options about making it quieter inside the cab of these 7.3's and I mentioned that adding window tint actually made a slight difference. I haven't done a windshield, but I may soon. Dynamat in the doors made the biggest difference for me. Then the floor pan was next. I'm now in the process of switching cabs. Found one that is in great shape. Well, actually a friend is doing it for me. We are going to dynamat the entire cab before the interior is installed.
