Finally got a deal done
Brought this home with me yesterday. Except for the paint and tread plate bed and running boards, the restoration was essentially back to a more or less stock form.
My plans have changed because it is such a great example. I may leave the engine stock. If the wife has issue with the non-syncro tranny, I may put an AOD or other auto behind it. Plans that have not changed: it will go to 12 volts, it will have electric wipers, it will get a new wood bed, it will get better wheels, (although these aren't bad for what they are), it will get better brakes, (at least dual pot with discs up front), It will get a new bucket seat with console interior.

Thanks, everyone. It is a good looking truck. But, it's someone else's build. I want to personalize it. But, because it is much better than I had hoped to be able to start with, my changes will be, as I said, very limited and reasonably uncomplicated.
BTW, even though the title says it's a 1948, the serial number says it's a 1949. I bought a BSA motorcycle in Pa. where I bought this, once. When I went to register it here, the Delaware DMV had a fit. Claimed the number listed on the Pa. title was not the full and proper serial number. This ought to be a lot of fun.

Congratulations on your find! It looks like a nicely done truck, and the mods are tasteful. The wipers may not be that big of a deal, depending on how much you plan on driving in the rain. And here's another little thing you can add to the personalization list; the Ford emblems on the hood sides are switched left/right from correct. An easy fix.

That's a good eye. I'll get to switching them this week. I'm sure it was a matter of someone forget which side was which. The truck was apparently a sideline resto. Took nearly three years of working on it when time was available and customer cars were not.

Trust me, she can drive a stick. My Miata is a six speed. Once when looking at a new Mustang for the boss, she decided to try a stick. Do you have any idea how embarrassing it can be to have someone break the tires loose, on a brand new car, as they are leaving the dealership? Then she turned around and told the still very shocked sales person, "Ya know, stick shift is fun, but I don't think I can afford the tires"!!!
