2008 Superduty canbus questions

as far as I can see, the 2008 is a straight up resistance loop,
2 wires for steering wheel audio control, it is an open circuit until you hit a button, each button has a "known" resistor value.
I don't see where the 2008 ties the audio controls into CANbus or any other network.
Now if I could just find a aftermarket head unit with decent FM reception.

Interesing... I can't find a single landmark in either of those images. The first seems like it's facing the rear of the original (north) side, but there are two blue lights where the bathroom should be. The second could be either of two mirrors (neither still has Budweiser written across it), but with the large wooden post on the right it'd have to be looking into the draft bar... the Say Bull sign (long since gone) is where the door would be if it was the original bar/counter. I'll see if I can gather enough photos with light to make a map.
Could that not be the Cow Hop?
I liked the Chicken as a beer bar, too. Very glad they didn't start selling bourbon while I was in school. I hung out there nearly every night for that particular reason. Even ran a 42 tournament on Mondays until I moved away.
Is that a Bonfire cap in the center of the first one?

Ok,
I loaded up my 2008-2009 service manual DVD (that I have to set the comp clock to Oct 2011 so that it will work).
The Steering wheel audio controls go directly to the Audio control plug (head unit), no connection to any cannabis
That tells me when you use one of those Chinese head units that "learn" the buttons, the head unit is just assigning a resistance value to each function.
So one could swap out the regular SW audio control module with one that has the extra 2 HVAC buttons and use those 2 buttons for additional functions ?

reset the clock each time you want to use the manuals.

P.S. And look who said to get back on topic. And now what am I doing.

Just an update,, I have had ZERO luck with the Chinese head units,,,
I have had 2 that looked really good in the pictures and specs,, but received something totally different (got my money back both times).
Had one that was really close,, but they just don't get it,,
really another day of RD and it would be a good unit,, it just has some crippling bugs. Not so much of a hardware quality problem,, just the implantation is "miss guided"
Still searching,

FYI: hooking up my Xtrons Chineese head unit.
The head unit had Key1 and Key2 wires for steering audio controls.
After trial and error, and sleuthing with a VOM.
On the Ford connector, Pin 18 and 19 are the audio controls from the steering wheel.
18 is aux audio controls and wired to the stereo "Key 1" wire.
19 is Aux speed controls steering wheel return (ends up being common ground) and is hooked to the aux ground wire on the stereo.
all work fine.
