Horn relay. Which one is it and how to test?

My horn isn't working. The under-dash fuse is OK and was going to check the horn relay, but can't figure out which one it is despite numerous FTE and Google searches. I pulled the cover on 2 power distribution boxes under the hood, driver's side. One box has 2 relays. The other has 4. Which one controls the horn?

Then...how do I test it to see if it's good/bad? Thanks.

The horn relay is integral to the underdash CJB. You can see if you have +12VDC going out on the wire to the horn itself(load side of relay) by probing connector C270h, pin#9 with a test light while hitting the horn button. Its a Yel/LtGrn wire. The CJB can be easily pulled out for testing by removing (4) 10 mm (IIRC) nuts that secure it to the chassis. Be very careful to identify the correct conductor. There's a lot to look at behind there.

If you have no power on that wire, double check fuse 37. If it's good, then you need to dig further. Let us know what you see.

Thanks. I'll pull the CJB and see what I can find. Will update once done. I already checked Fuse 37 and it is good.

You might also consider it could be the horn in the steering wheel or the clock spring. I've had the actual steering wheel switch go bad before.

Problem solved. Did all the testing as advised. Turns out to be a loose plug at the OEM horn. I found this out after installing a new off-the-shelf horn and re-connecting the OEM horn. Dooh! Now I have a 2-tone horn.

Glad you solved the problem. Just to answer your question, the clock spring is the electrical contact under the steering wheel that is used by the horn and cruise control.

Thanks for this, allowed me to track my horn issue to a frayed wire behind CJB. Very helpful.

Cheers,

Nate
